Is this nv scope with built in range finder worth the £820 price tag ?
I've watched as many vids as humanly possible and it seems ok for the money. I cant afford to spend thousands on a thermal scope and I don't like the ATN 4K pro cos its too long and needs an add on range finder. I'm not that bothered about recording my kills onto a memory card, I just want to be able to see in the dark without them seeing me !! The PARD is nice and compact and will fit my sub 12 Rapid nicely, at present I can only shoot until the light goes and as Autumn / Winter looms my shooting hours are slowly diminishing. Kev (KCE) you seem to be the night vision guru on here what's your thoughts, you seem to be more ATN biased ?

Hi topsparx1.
The pard nv oo8 is a good nv don't get me wrong and will serve you well.
You will need to mount it as low as you can on a rapid to get good eye relief.
The onboard ir is ok but you will find it better to get another ir to get better performance from it.
There have been a few probs with it not holding zero but with most ne wproducts you will get the odd hiccup then they will sort it.
If I had the choice of a 4k pro or the nv008 it would be the 4k pro as I have used both so know what gives best performance.
Cliff Ray on here is also a very big stockist of thermal and nv scopes at good forum member discount rates.
He stocks a lot of new brands which I have also used and have on order a new thermal scope from him.

Thanks for the input Kev, I know of Cliff Ray and his company, I thought he dealt in more high end stuff. I'm really only after a few rats and rabbits out to 40 yards so I think for the money I have available, the Pard NV008LRF would be a suitable purchase. Unless you know of a better make & model for around £800 to £900. I mean if Cliff can do a dearer scope at a cheaper rate that would be a right result.

If you are only shooting that far on them targets the nv007 is bang on for you and much cheaper.
Regards kev.

PS I will contact ray for you see what he can offer.

Cheers Kev, I looked at the NV007 first but it didn't seem likely that I could attach it to my scope and then get everything to fit on the scope rail. I use an MTC King Cobra scope which is already long enough without the NV attachment hence the NV008 option and the fact I want an onboard range finder brought in the NV008LRF.

Personally I think it is a bit long as well, but the ATN 4K is the best of the non-thermal scopes. I can let you have the 5-20 for £890 or the 3-14 which is more than enough for rats at £840.

The best rat scope by far though if the IRay SCL35 thermal, but a lot more than you want to pay. On my 17hmr I used that scope to wipe up the rat population (around 600 within 100m of the house alone) when I moved to a disused pig farm April 2019 and they still haven't dared come back.

There is now an slightly lower spec model designed specifically for up to and around 100m shooting called the SCP19. List is £1400, but as long as you don't mention it off the forum, they are £1150 here including VAT and a three year warranty.

That's a bit more than you want to pay, but you will absolutely love it :)

To be honest Cliff I haven't even considered Thermal Scopes as I thought they were well out of my price range but I must say I am very tempted by the SCP19 option. I'll do a bit more research (and probably overtime at work) and get in touch with you via PM for a chat.

Thanks Bill

It does Daz but I am not familiar with Thermal Scopes at all, I have no clue how they work, can you use them in daylight like the Pard NV008 or is it completely different technology only for night or low light levels. I want an NV scope for daylight, low light, night time and rangefinding etc all in one and so far the Pard NV008LRF fits the bill exactly even if it isn't as good as some others.

Have you not thought about the pard 007 IR unit?  they are great value for the money, i use one with my MFR, FAC rapid and also HMR.  -the on board IR is good enough to make out rabbits to 200yds, so more than enough even for the HMR.  I never bother using my additional IR torch.  Granted range finding isnt possible, but i generally know the land and have a good idea of ranges.  Plus with the air rifle if you miss you can often watch the pellet impact point and get a second go!
