Thanks for the info Stu. I'll keep my eyes peeled for something suitable to make a rod from for future maintenance work that may need doing.

A piece of wooden dowel will work...
Diameter of the dowel is not important, just as long it fits into the Hammer, and is long enough..
There isn't a Large amount of pressure needs to be applied to depress the valve-stem.

There must be a wooden spoon in the kitchen, that you can trim a piece off!!
