breaks your heart some of the things you see done to the rapids m8.i bought a gorgeous tyro stock a few years ago with the same modification but done much neater, made an anti tamper as it looked dodgy on a sub 12ftlbs.

I know it's not the same as an un butchered stock but I repaired one by making the slot the same size as a 20 dowel then glued a section of dowel in and reshaped and stained it , yes you could see it ,but it was better than a big chunk chewed out of the back

I think the problem is some people just get a drill plug it in and cut away and then the drill jumps on the stock and all hell breaks loose and then all they can do it hope for the best to correct the problem,

I`ve seen this happen myself i have to say not on a rapid but a daystate harrier.

You don't need any slot  just set the thing before you put the action back in to the stock.

I think the reason as to why they do this is because it make`s it easy to adjust power levels in the fields.
normally they are running illegal when in the fields and then set it back to normal if walking on the streets.

I know why there are stocks like above are butchered because persons have fitted 'power adjusters', this sort of thing.
But I still think WHY?

Thats not 'adjustment' more like changing the hammer assembly

Some of the cut outs on some stocks I have worked on over the years look as though a beaver had a chomp on them to do the cut outs.

Tbh i`ve seen people tie elastic bands around the hammer on a falcon fn19 to produce more power and then remove them when they hit the streets just in case the police give them a pull to ask where they have been,

So the cut out stocks well they really don't surprise  me as to what people will do to get that little bit more out of there gun in the field.

But i do understand what your saying Squinty you do hit the correct points, but we do have a lot of idiots out there who just don`t care how to gain power as long as they get it.

Its bonkers.
As soon as you adjust the power even a little bit it throws off all your aim points.
I really don't get it.
The rifle will be more accurate if set and left.
Mine are all set at 11.2
It wont go over in summer and it wont drop much in winter, but barring any poor pellets or technique I know where I expect the pellet to go pretty much every time.
Plus it makes the stock look like ass when you go lopping bits off.

Shame really.

One of my stocks was suitably butchered, just enough room for an Allen key & it looked like it had been done with a metalwork chisel 

I cut a central notch & then used a large bolt shoulder as a guide & worked up through the grades of paper.

It's not original, but now it's stained the same as the stock, it looks way better.

Anti tamper fitted to the adjuster too
