Hi members,
Does any one know how many 400cc buddy bottles you can fill to 220bar from a 12ltr 300bar tank.
I have had my dive bottle serviced local just before xmas at a place called dream dive.
I would never recommend any one going there as the price I paid was far more than what there website said it would cost.
They say they service all tanks on there site but they don't they send them out to be serviced.
My bottle was near mint as I look after my gear there were no marks on the bottle at all.
when I went to pick up my bottle I had to ask the question if it was my bottle as it was in a real bad way.
There was paint removed form the tank with what looks like a grinder to remover the labels off it.
There were very deep grooves in the tank all over to bare metal which were not there before I took in the bottle.
I have before and after photos to show this.
I had to buy a jacket to cover the damage and I paid far more for the service than what they said on there website.
I also paid for a 300bar fill.
I have filled 1 400cc buddy bottle to 220bar and almost one other buddy bottle to 220bar at a push.
something is not right somewhere.
How many fills should I get as im going back there next week to put in a complaint and show before and after pics.

Happy New Year's Kev
I hope you and Your family are safe and healthy!!

Well I had to do a search for you.
Since us Yanks measure the size of our tanks differently!!

But here is a nice Metric/UK fill calculator!
on a New Zealand Airgun Site:
https://www.airrifle.co.za/minisites.php?page=calc

So this should get the info you need.....BTW you need the "empty" pressure/ pressure you normally refill at!

Good Luck,
Have great New Year!!

Many years ago when I was a diver it was called upper field marine , they did do their own tests and servicing but I stopped  getting cylinders filled  there when I have a 232 bar cylinder half filled with water,  not great for an air gun but imagine your life depends on it if you go inverted your air will stop and you contents gauge showed full but you only had about half the air you thought you had , now image whole thing again 30 meters down on a wreck dive with poor viz. I dove with a twin set so could swap but that ain't the point .

In very simple terms, 1bar is 1 volume, so a full 12ltr 300bar cyl contains  12 x 300 =3600 ltrs

Each time you fill a bottle or gun some of that volume is removed,
an empty 400cc bottle takes 88 ltrs to reach 220bar (0.4 x 220) while a top up from 100bar would take 48 ltrs.

In theory after filling 1 empty 400cc bottle there would be 292bar in the cylinder, after filling 2 there wold be 285 bar,
(3600 - 88 = 3512, 3512/12 = 292.6, 3512 - 88 = 3424, 3424/12 = 285.3)

If you only just got 2 empty 400cc bottles to 220 bar then the maths says you started with 234bar not 300 bar.

I suspect the dive shop compressor is set to 235 bar so divers 232bar bottles are full once they cool.
But unless they charge more for a 300bar fill than for a 232bar fill you have not been ripped off, they have filled your cyl to the max pressure their compressor will deliver.

The cylinder damage is a different matter that's appalling, but I'm not sure what you expect them to do about it

The above is theoretical because at 300 bar air molecules "act funny" so you don't actually have all 3600  :-\ plus you lose a few cc's venting charging gear,
but it's close enough.

Ca_Varminter

Kev, that is exactly why I got my HPA Compressor!!

I couldn't get a Dry, full fill of 4500 psi(300bar) close to where I live!!
It would be at least a 1 hour drive, one way to get to "good" fill station.
Also The price would always change for a 4500psi charge!!
But what convinced me, after getting a fill with Water in my tank!!

So Now I fill my own...

Hi KCE please post a full web link and contact information and also let them know when you visit them next your an admin on this site, after that post comment`s from them and pictures and let me do the rest.

Happy Days !

;)

My first 400cc bottle had 170bar still in it when I charged to 220bar the 2nd 400cc bottle had just under 160bar and only just got it to fill at 220bar.
They did tell me they had bought a new compressor and water tank to charge bottles to 300bar.
In the past I did get to see there old set up and it was a very small compressor with no water tank to cool down during the fill process.
My 12ltr 300bar bottle was much bigger than the tank on the old set up they had.
The hidden costs were also not good to say the least.

Regards kev.
PS I just tried to refill another 400cc bottle that has got 170bar in it and could only fill to 210bar.

Here are some pics now of my bottle.

Regards kev.

The first 2 pics are before it went in for the service.
A lot of the marks are down to metal so I had to buy a neoprene jacket to cover the bottle.

Well the new test date stamp highlighted with colour should/has to be done, here's mine done in red,
It's so you can't just peel the label & fit a new one.

Where's the bit you said was done with a grinder ?

The rest looks like it was rolling around loose in the back of a van & dragged, not lifted, out.

Those figures from topping up tell me it only had 223.6 bar when you started, not good.

OK, so that says they ground off the paint in order to stamp the test date in to the bare metal,
Not strictly necessary, but they will say they do that to get a flat surface so the stamp is clear.

TBH while the owner might not like it on his pristine bottle, it's just part & parcel of a retest  :-\ the low pressure however, is not.

Sorry to disagree with you there m8 but each time I go to SDS watersports for a service in the past I have never had any problems in any way and you get you tank back the same as it went in.
they even show you a gauge on your tank that you have a 300bar fill also.
Never had any sort of damage on my tank in the past.
They were not charging bottles at that time due to covid restrictions and unable to use water tank is the reason I went to dream dive.

Regards kev.

Ps you would have also thought looking on there website that when you had a service and the price quoted would also include new seals and grease which you need on a service but these are all extra charges you are not told about till you pick up your tank.
