Good morning. Here's what you need to know to start your day with our daily briefing, compiled by Liji Varghese.

Warning up to 40% of Covid vaccine appointments are no-shows

The vast majority of people will be given a booster dose of either the Pfizer jab or the Moderna jab, also now know as Spikevax.

As with all vaccines, both booster jabs may have some side effects ranging from common but mild to rare but more severe.

While both vaccines share some side effects, there are some differences and some side effects are reported to be more common in one than the other.

Side effects of the Pfizer booster jab
Very common: may affect more than 1 in 10 people

injection site: pain, swelling
tiredness
headache
muscle pain
chills
joint pain
diarrhoea
fever
Common: may affect up to 1 in 10 people

redness at injection site
nausea
vomiting
Uncommon: may affect up to 1 in 100 people

enlarged lymph nodes
feeling unwell
arm pain
insomnia
injection site itching
allergic reactions such as rash or itching
feeling weak or lack of energy/sleepy
decreased appetite
excessive sweating
night sweats

Rare side effects: may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people

temporary one sided facial drooping
allergic reactions such as hives or swelling of the face
Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data)

severe allergic reaction
inflammation of the heart (myocarditis or pericarditis)
extensive swelling of the vaccinated limb
swelling of the face (swelling of the face may occur in patients who have had facial dermatological fillers)

Severe allergic reactions with breathing difficulties (anaphylaxis)
Reaction of increased sensitivity or intolerance by the immune system (hypersensitivity)
Inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) or inflammation of the lining outside the heart (pericarditis) which can result in breathlessness, palpitations or chest pain

As a registered carer. and thanks to some statistical goal post moving I'm in the 'at risk' group I received my first jabs very early on.
Both vaccinations were Pfizer, R-A-F the first time, a 'bit funky' on the second. I wasn't keen on having  another.

Had the booster at the beginning of November, for some reason I expected Pfizer again but received Moderna.
About  12 hours after I thought...why is my arm sore. Doh! Forgot I'd even had it.
No side effects which was a relief simply because I'm a miserable twat when I don't feel well ;D

My nephew's GF works in a Covid ICU, I'd take a 1:1 million chance on the temporary immunity over the 50/50 chance of leaving her unit alive.

I honestly think I had covid before we officially knew about it around x mass time as it was announced feb , that year in June I spent 12 days on a icu due to a bugged Gaulbladder and pancreatitis not fun at all It turned out in the room I was in there was a covid positive guy he had terminal cancer too
