I have a friend of mine tell me that a Chrono that fits to the end of your airgun is accurate in it checking of consistency through out the shot count put through it,

Now i was lead to believe that your airgun barrel should be at LEAST 10 inche`s away from your barrel to get a true reading as the air from the barrel " If to close to the chrono " when travelling through the chrono can lead to inconsistent velocity readings throughout the complete cycle of reading took from a chrono too close to the airgun barrel.

This information was given to me Via link below, as i own myself the skan chrono.

So what do we all think about the chrono that fits directly onto the airgun barrel as per this video taken from utube below as Skan say the reading given by such a cheap chrono will not be true and cannot be taken seriously.

I have never liked barrel attached Chronographs......

But this is my new Chronograph...
Labradar.....
No More Skyscreens and line ups
Use Radar to pick up pellet flight
It will give you Muzzle Velocity and Down range reading at interval of your choosing....

But my question to the barrel attachment chrono is how accurate is it in  checking of consistency and the correct power level`s,

:)

Ca_Varminter

Well I have heard good and bad things about them...
Since in the USA, we are not regulated on power....
I don't see much about them over here..

From a technical viewpoint...
The Longer distance between the skyscreens, the accuracy of the measurement increases.
So I would check your popular Airgun magazines for reviews and opinions....

Only way to find out is try using both the combo and another chronograph at the same time and see the results, but how do you know if the other chronograph is accurate though ?

The Combro type of chronograph generally works well if you have a silencer or air stripper attached.
The air blast can and has been known to cock things up a bit.

The Chrony Alpha type with the sunshades are limited by light and the extra kit needed for indoor use.  I didnt get on with mine.

The best one i have used is the one i now own.  The Air Chrony Mk3.  It can be used inside or out, and isnt affected by lighting etc.
Its small and light and has an attachment that connects to the bottom of the unit that you can rest the barrel end on thereby giving you consistency in your read outs.

Im sure the FX and the Skan types are still very good, but for the cost, portability and anywhere use im happy with the Air Chrony so far.

As a side note, if you have a Combro, look after it as the chap that makes them (in the UK), is hsving a hard time getting parts.
I have msnaged to shoot a couple over the years then found out they are rebuildable.

The good news is after I bought a new replacement I rebuilt my old one. Two is one etc!

Looking for a new chrono but not sure what I will go with

The combro is good value for money, i had one and it was always giving comparable figures to any other chrono i compared it against.

I only got rid lf it as i bought the fx chrono, which can be moody but is very good on the whole

This is the best Chronograph i`ve ever owned, I`m not totally sure but i think i`ve owned this now for 20 years maybe,

I have a Bluechron chrono that fits on the end of my barrel. Its a cracking piece of kit, it used to be sold by a company in Warrington (Cheshire). I'm pretty sure they have closed down now unfortunately. My shooting buddy had a Skan chrono (brilliant piece of kit) and it used to give almost identical readings.

I do agree with Kernal though about the quality of the SKAN equipment, if money is no object I would go for one of them.

I find the FX is good enough to do anything I need. It is portable, accurate and easy to set up.

I've tried a few chrony's and have now settled on 3...

combro - for a bit of nostalgia...its my most recent purchase
FX RAdar - sits ion the range bag as is so easy to use out and about (along with a gorillapod)
Air Chrony Mk3 - sits in the shed and is always ready to go.

If I had to make a choice out of the three it would be the airchrony mk3 as it works anywhere and isn't that big.  I don't think I would go back to the F1, Caldwell, pro chrono type ones now.

Thanks
