Neatest gauge options Mk1 Rapid

Chaps having owned a fair few rapids in my time  ;D

I've done the odd one or two gauge setups namely the Dr Bob QF & Gauge setup and even the original accessories Theoben gauge version along with removing the bung on a later Mk1 and fitting an adapter to gauge setup with the neat stock hole cutout.

I like aesthetics and see there's a few versions now on the market.

Never fitted the RAW version but I believe they are hard to find in stock anywhere.

The best fittings version doesn't float my boat either as I like aesthetics.

I'm not sure which route to go on my earlier Mk1 with Ambi stock.

Obviously drilling and tapping the block and cutting a neat stock hole is probably the best aesthetically but a lot of work and I've briefly mentioned it to Kev.

However is there a neater bottle adapter route? I don't mind the gauge under barrel route but I don't like bottles pushed too far forward and I don't like QF fittings hanging out the bottom of the stock or them on either side with half moon stock cut outs.

I'm not overly fussed on any QF route it's just the gauge I want so I can keep an eye out for any issues and be good to go on the fly so to speak at a quick glance etc

Well first one... you can still find the old Theoben Gauge

Then if you can't find a Raw version on your side of the pond....
I bet KevG, could machine one up!!
Here is the original RAW setup..

Here is my version made from a spare MK II FF. I then made my own banjo fitting for the Foster fitting
You can easily put a gauge in place of the Foster QF.

Good Luck,
Stuart

Cheers Stuart some food for thought  8)

Hopefully I can bang heads with Kev sometime  :)

I've just been looking on eBay and notice Dr Bob does a more compact Gauge/QF setup that only moves the bottle 10mm which although I'm not that fussed about the QF route it might be a good option as my Ambi stock should offer a slightly more flush cutout if I mount it gauge under the barrel and QF at the bottom instead of the V half moon cut out etc
