Squinty

Collected this yesterday evening.

Fitted a new safety catch, tidied up the cocking dog and put a smear of molybdenum grease on the bolt.
Tried three hammer springs...Sorry John if you get round reading this .......went from 3ft/lbs to 11.3 ft/lbs +/- 5fps in 24 shots.

Not quite happy with it yet, makes an odd noise...quiet but it goes.... g-nut,

Will have a good play with it over the weekend.

KCE

A very nice outfit in a very sought after cal.
Get her out in the field now and keep us updated.

doubtful today as it is persisting it down.

just had a 3 1/2 hour rebuild, knew it had a few issues, replaced the cocking dog, inner probe, hammer spring and guides... trigger.
mostly sorted now and I'd never considered a .20 but £500 for a regged mk1 five minutes walk from home .. 8)

cheers Kev
spent some time on it yesterday, had to run a 63mm spring to get 11.3

replaced the cocking dog, had quite a few knocks... no safety ctach so not hard to work out why it was locking up.

changed the hammer as the pip was loose and wouldn't hold on the last turn.

then it wouldn't cock every 5-6 shots , replaced the hammer spring guides to see if the long spring was binding and backed off the trigger... .after which it wouldn't cock at all
Came with a new spare trigger, so I swapped out sears and springs. It cocks every time now

bloody noisy probe again, power sapping.. 3-6ft/lbs with sub-12 spring.

Don't know why they keep wearing out so fast?   I can guess WHY.
there wasn't spring disc between the probes... and it was over tighted to make a good seal.
Why aren't they supplied with new probes?  Few pence for a spring disc that fits as the OE items have a narrower threaded base.

Anyway changed the inner and probe spring for a stiffer one.  Noise almost gone.  :)

PTFE taped the valve location grub screw as that was popping under my finger.

spare hammer had a 12mm pip so now it's running a 45mm spring , short guide and a 5mm spacer.
Makes 11.5ft.. 10 fps spread with JSBs.

Put the  stock on my project mk2 (with the silly shot count) as it was meant for a late mk1 and there was a gap at the back.
Also the back of the trigger unit fouled and the action canted when tightening up the bottle.

tbh I'd never considered a .20, I have FAC .22 running 35ft/lbs  and a sub-12 .177 which performs well with Barracuda match and FT.

The only advantage so far is that the pellets are easier to find on the carpet than 177  ;D and  I won't be scratting around trying all brands and head-sizes as it only shoots well with Exacts.
Hopefully I'll get it sorted over the coming weeks.... maybe i'll warm to i...maybe I wont.

It was a local guys project gun; block was re-anodised and the barrel was nicely blacked by Paul Chell. Full rebuild but not quite running right.
I've put the stock on my mk2 project as it was off a very late mk1 as there was a gap at the back and the Gamo didn't sit right in the cutout.
For what it cost I won't lose money sorting it out or keeping what I want and parting it out.

Finding the pellets easyer is an advantage the older I get! Getting a Bit stevie wonder👍😂😂 wonder if the choke is a bit tight? Wonder if it could be cut off or polished out a bit? Never had one as said but have heard 20 barrels can be a bit fussy could be b.s as far as I know just always fancied trying 20 for some reason

Stevie Wonder LOL,...for once in my life i have someone who needs me ...LOL ,  But on a more serious note that is one seriously nice looking rifle you have to agree,  I just love the way its been photographed with the wooden logs in the background as it lay`s on top waiting for a KevG conversion :D

I think the choke is a little tight, rodded a few JSBs, the rifling is 'well defined' along the whole length and it juuust has a faint swage on the bottom of the skirt. Barrels 14.5" already- doesn't want any more off.
But FTTs slip through, chrono is a different story and they have had a 40fps spread compared to under 10fps with JSB.
Previous owner said FTTs were shocking...no reason to doubt that.

From what I can work out some barrels do well with H&N, a few shoot both but mostly JSBs come out on top.

Kev conversion?
It already has a nano-reg and is back-ported between the plenums although the top port is still standard non-reg size.
Could open it up to mk2 specs..make it breath easier, quieter., more shots.

Although returning it to fast-flow whilst the porting is standard and putting the reg in my FAC is also an option  .

Thanks..will get a few more pics before I cut and split (the logs)
Nice stock but its not for that model, 5mm gap at the back..trigger and block don't sit right either and it skews putting the bottle on. :(

kennyboy

I`ve never had a .20 cal. but the more I read about it on this forum, the more I fancy trying one. Trouble is they sell so fast I`m never on line when they come up. Thinking about it I`m always too late for anything I fancy! Sods law I think Ken.
