Your thoughts on a new night/day scope...which one?

Never did venture into night optics for my nocturnal shooting habits, I've always been content with a good ole fashion torch lamping, so some advice is needed.

As I'm just stating back shooting after a long absence, my curiosity has been aroused by looking into the possibility of buying a day/night scope.
Now the ones I've been researching are the 'Hik Micro 4K Lite' and 'DNT ZULUS 4K' (still not in production yet). I don't want to spend silly money and these are at the front of my list...so far.

What are your thoughts please, if you don't mind. Shall I go with the 4K lite or hang on a bit for the DNT 4K....or is there some scope I've completely over looked.

I bought the ALPEX 4K LRF specifically to mount on an FAC rapid. It was an arsepain trying to mount it and the DNT would have been even more so, as you just can't get a decent sight picture/cheekweld. See the note on stock adjustable cheek pice I posted earlier as this rsolved the problem. The Alpex in any flavour are good for the price, that said they still arent as good as even a low res thermal clipon and these are really coming down fast in price. The Alpex if used after last light or ratting/long range bunnies needs a decent torch or better still a LAM. For under £800 with rangefinder and inbuilt ballistic correction that actually does work,..its a steal.

Thanks for the reply. I did fail to mention that I would be using it on a sub 12ft Rapid, shooting only out to a maximum of 35 to 40 yds at night. I'm also drawn towards the close focusing range. Do you have any thought on that?

Alpex lite will do what u need,..but read up on mounting. You really do need some cheek piece height or u just cant get a consistent sight picture

Well I still prefer a good day scope with an NV add-on, because the day picture can be poor on digital day/night.

But there was a youtube of the Zulus 5-20 lrf balistic ret on the BBS (since removed) which looked a superb bit of kit,
Press the rangefinder & the cross moved to show the aim point  :o the day picture looked very good,
but as the on board recording is direct feed it can appear better than what your eye see's.
for £500 it looks a very good buy.

I've a Zulus 5-20 lrf on my fac Rapid from December past. I too wasnt sure about it as i've always been used to a scope but i have to say i really like it now i've got used to it. The cons of having to rely on having batteries charged and also having to turn it on before i can see or take a shot are out weighed by the rangefinder/ballistic app and the ability to switch to NV mode at the press of a button. I've been doing a good bit of rat shooting over the winter and its not missed a beat. I was also able to see into a dark shed during daytime to shoot a few ferals that i would never have seen without the NV option. Great build quality and pretty easy to work re zeroing, ballistic app etc.

My ATN thermal has just died, still under warranty but as it's a base model might be beyond economical repair, so looking around I discovered DNT do a combined unit which is basically the zulus 5-20 with a 3-12 thermal built in  8)

If I need a new one this is now top of the list.

What is wrong with your thermal optic would a firmware sort out the problem or is it a shutter problem as they were prone at times for this and resetting back to factory settings after setting up reticle
