Leaking through barrel

Having sorted the leak at the quickfill valve housing on my mk2, I had put Rapid away and hadn't used it for a few weeks. Took it out at the start of the week and it was stone flat. Tried to fill it and it was losing air through the barrel. Replace the orings on the valve and reassembled, but still leaking. Any suggestions on what I should check next. Cheers

Which O-rings... The one on the Stem or the large on on the Body?

This is areas of concern when you get air leaking into the Barrel.

Depending on who and when the Black(Acetal) Valve-body was made. It may have 1 or 2 BS013 O-rings.
Check for condition and if they are dry! Replace and lube as needed.

Next is the Nose(sealing face) of the Valve-body. This Where the valve-stem creates the seal.
Make sure there is no foreign debris, or deep scratches/gouges.
Clean as needed.
If there is any damage to the sealing face.
They can be carefully sanded out. Using a drill and some fine wet/dry sandpaper.

But if everything so far checks out to be fine.
Next you will need to check if the Valve-stem is bent.
Chuck it in a drill and spin it..
Minor bends, may be corrected.... But usually replacing the Valve-body/valve-stem assembly would be best!

Good Luck,
Stuart

Not sure if you mean it's just still leaking down the barrel as you try to fill ? If so cock it in case there's pressure on the back of the valve stem, also whack in the first 50 bar pretty quick as the pressure helps the valve to seal.
Mine sometimes leak down the barrel when fitting a new bottle, always stops when dry fired.

I did think that was the problem to start with, as I'd made that mistake when I first got the gun. It's holding a certain amount of pressure but losing it quite quickly.

Thanks Stuart. Yes, I replaced the 2 BS013 orings on the valve and the smaller one at the rear of the valve, also the oring on the stem. The sealing face of the valve looks ok, no dirt or scratch. I'll check the stem in the drill later on. I dare say I'll just replace the valve anyway just to be on the safe side.

Sounds good so far..
Don't forget to put a thin film of Molykote or Scuba grease on the O-rings.
Also check and clean the area where those O-ring seals against the Rapid Receiver.
Make sure there is no debris...dried lube..even hair......

Good Luck, Again..

its fairly common to get a leak in this area after messing with joints, only takes the smallest bit of crap to come of the disturbed threads and find the right place to get a leak from the sealing valve and stem faces

Chucked the stem in the drill, not sure if tiny amount of wobble, and I mean really tiny, is in the stem or the drill chuck itself. Cleaned out the block last night, and re fitted the valve and still leaking. Time to try a new valve @KevG ?

KevG

yes can do you a set, could be the valve body needing a face skim

Is that the rear portion of the valve body pointing towards the hammer

angrybear

The recess in the cap where the valve spring sits, 8mm holds the spring nice & straight,
the brass filter valves used a 12mm which can allow the spring to sit on the piss & push the stem to one side.

Thanks, I wouldn't be up to speed with the proper names for a lot of the parts.

12mm bore with a plastic insert with 6mm nipple that the spring sits on

OK your MKII seems to have been converted from the sintered bronze filter valve-body
to a standard Valve-body!!
That is very good!! The Filtered one were crap...
The sintered bronze would fall apart and cause all sorts of valve issues!!!!
