Hi there,  anyone know where i can get hold of carbon shrouds, want to keep the barrels clean.

thanks Darren

If you just want a carbon tube to slide over ebay is the place.

Thing that I'm not keen on is you cannot see the barrel as in has it got wet at some point and the damp is happily causing havoc with the blueing.
Don't get me wrong I think they look good but thats what worries me.

Darren T

good point as the idea was to protect over looks .. will re-consider!) :o

williamthedog

If anyone has been using shrouds for a while it might be worthwhile asking them.

Squinty

if you fit a carbon sleeve it's best to grease the barrel,  I've heard motorbike chain lube is best as it doesn't sag
On the condensation issue my FAC had been covered with sbrink tube years ago to stop the lamp reflecting

when I took it off the barrel was deeply pitted and the rust has gone all the way down to the port.

I use shroud on all my Rapids!
Even with a shroud, never forget basic Maintenance and yearly Maintenance
on your barrels.....
After each shooting session I run an oily patch sown the bore to clean and protect the bore...
Then At least Once a year, I will Pull the barrel shroud off, remove the barrel from the receiver.
Give the whole barrel a good wipe down with a rag w/a few drops of oil..
You would be surprised the amount of lead dust deposits there are!

But if you go shooting when it is raining.... I will strip my rapid down completely..
wipe down every part with a rag with a few drops of oil....No need to chance any part to start rusting!

thanks for the insight, photos and advice, I bought a tube from Easy Composites SKU CFT-WF-18-16-1, £28 delivered to play around with, need to cut to length and sand the end, but its a good fit, will get 2 out of it at least!

You'll have to post some photos of the finished job.

Ca_Varminter

The most important part of making a Carbon-Fiber shroud, cutting it to length!
Also truing up the cut end if needed.
This is where have the proper equipment makes this a Snap!

But it can be done without a lathe... Just google cutting carbon-fiber tubes by hand...
then have a nice flat surface for you to sand the ends true....

Good Luck,
Stuart

BTW. when I cutting my cf tube on my lathe, I use my shop-vac to catch the carbon dust!!
Very nasty stuff!!! make sure you clean up after working with cf material!!.   Stu.

Darren T

finally got the shroud on, followed your advice and kept the dust away, also cheated a little with a pipe grip with guide rail .. did a clean cut first time and sanded back to fit..
