who really shoot`s 12lbs

and if so why coz i think its not that gud and i don`t understand why over here in england we cannot have 20lbs as standard to be 100% for that nice clean shot!

it all started to protect the British airgun industry.as our guns at the time could not match the American imports such as the Sheridan pumps..most of those were around 14 plus ftlbs. I guess shot placement is just if not more important than a bit more extra power.of course flatter trajectory helps.

I only shoot under 12 ft/lbs and if you have half decent field skills you don't need more than 40 yards anyway....

Can't be bothered with all the FAC malarky....although I do understand why a higher power limit would benefit slightly longer distances....but then go by a rimmy

higher power limit would benifit full stop mate cos a rimmy in the wood shooting in high tree`s well that would not end up great would it lets be honest,

But a 20 lbs air rifle that would be a different story tbh, So i would say the airgun at 20 lbs would definitely have the advantage over any rimmy and you don`t have to worry about it going right through the target and carrying on over fields and dales.

My choice would be 20 lbs over 12 lbs and i think that should be a set limit in england too tbh,.

I shoot 12ftlb and don`t want or need more. An FAC isn`t worth the hassle with all the paper work and having to get the land passed for FAC use. I have read somewhere that  the 12ftlb limit was set after some nutter was found taking pot shots at vehicles and people from a flyover in London, but I can`t understand the logic when an air rifle is limited to 12ftlb and a crossbow that produces far higher power isn`t licensed.

shooting upwards into trees with a high power air rifle isn't going to end great if you miss either.

Totally understand wwhy you say 20ft is better than 12ft lb, but that wasn't the original question   

Right now I don't need or want more....but if the limit was increased I am sure I would also increase

The problem with that would be a 20fpe airgun is a pretty serious weapon easily capable of killing an adult.
I agree it would make an excellent hunting rifle, especially in .20 cal, but people would still push the limits.

Can't remember if it was 1950's or 60's but both BSA and Webley & Scott whined to the then government that they couldn't get it up (power that is) compared to the Yanks and asked them to do something about it.

Crosman and Benjamin, etc were giving the Brit manufacturers a damn good spanking.

This immediately turned the tide in favour of the British product but as usual, when the Brits managed to raise their game, the restriction wasn't removed.

The 70MPH speed limit was introduced when Jaguar tested their E-Type at 160+ MPH on a motorway. Most cars could only reach 80 or 90 at that time but the restriction stuck.

This happens all the time with perceived "soundbites" coming into Law for all the wrong reasons. Think VCR Bill and licensing up here in Scotland.

You would be surprised how effective a sub 12 is when it hit the mark ,I have a sub 12ftlb a 60ftlb a .22lr I guess 90 plus ftlb and up and had a 3000 ftlb centerfire,they all do different things and are each perfect for that respective job .

Sub 12ft/lb ers are a mighty effective tool.

If I remember correctly they reckon a rabbit only needs 3 ft lb to kill it...

My rapids are running at 30 fpe , they're still a long way off a 22lr at in and around 100fpe.
