Evolution of my MFR

Now I love a MFR - that's why I have one. Very accurate, consistent and with the current stock - lightweight. 



About a year later I sold it - as you do with rifles that are working faultlessly and accurate  .  A year further down the line it came back up for sale.....so I did what any self respecting person does.......and bought it back. I love a MFR!

Everything was as I pretty much left it apart from a bit of a trigger fettle. This one has a skinny barrel which stops short of the shroud,, and then some hair curlers and felt at the end. This means that there is no need for adapters or extra mods, which keeps the standard look perfectly whilst keeping it very quiet at the same time. The stock is particularly light for walnut, something else I loved about this.

So there it stood....all standard and extremely accurate, until an advert popped up for a very short LW barrel/shroud.  So I bought it, fitted it with both a 280cc bottle and a 200cc bottle (below). Whilst it achieved what I wanted it to, I didn't think it looked very balanced in the sporter stock (although it shouldered well). So it went back to standard and the short barrel went in the shed.





I had been umming and aaahhing over the Raw chassis system for a while - having seen builds from other owners and I usually get the opportunity to get over to the states, however last year or so has been a bit tricky for travel so it kind of went out of my mind. It seemed that Europe only has the x chassis, which suited the longer HM1000x block, but not the standard HM1000 blocks.

Then came Christmas and I though what the hell - ordered it direct from Raw, along with the Raw stock and a valve for the MFR bottle. Other bits from friends (Law Adapter, pic rail) & Airgun Heaven (quickfill). All the bits duly arrived, so I set around putting it all together.

There was a little bump in the road in that the block didn't fit.....did I say little bump? :facepalm: So a bit miffed and peed off it went in the corner and I sulked for a day. I went back to it the next day and could see it was actually the safety stopping the block from sitting correctly - so after a bit of advice it was either dremel a bit off or drop the safety out - I dropped the safety out.....mainly to see whether it would fit, but I don't tend to use safety's anyway so it didn't matter.

Its also a lesson, don't try to do stuff wen you have meetings at work.



So, with the block fitted I put the rest of the stuff on - Law tactical Adapter (total overkill, but what a piece of kit), the Raw stock, the quickfill and bottles and a m-lock pic rail. I tried it with the 200cc and the 280cc bottles.  Now the raw stocks are quite plasticky, and don't suit lefty at all.....if I was ordering again I would only get the chassis.  I also found out that the Raw buffer tube is non standard 




I was then asked by The Robin for a pic of what it looked like without the quickfill. I was also a bit curious to see what it would look like with a different stock and scope on - so I nicked the Hogue stock and CP Scope off the FX dreamtac, and as you can see below, it changes the overall look quite a bit. Although it doesn't have quickfill, its totally usable - although the quickfill will be going back on as it sets it off nicely.



As it stands today I took the CP scope off - the field of view was a bit narrow, and I have put one of my lighter vortex's on - I can just about get away with low mounts, so it works well.  I have also put some picatinny on the scope rail as well as the Magpul CTR stock.  3.4kgs all up.  You could reduce this by removing the folding stock adapter and quickfill.....probably get it well under 3kgs then.

Whilst I do like the 280 bottle, the 200 does seem to balance slightly better - so I think the config will stay this way a little while.  I may just swap the grips out.






The best bit is, underneath it all I still have my MFR, which I can put back to standard anytime I want

Where did you get the Stock/ tactical adapter?

A friend of mine had one - he has been into AR's for the longest time, so he offered it to me, along with the magpul ctr stock.

In this case Bob there isn't a bit - its all part of the chassis.  You slip the block into the chassis and the adjuster slips into the back allen bolt/adjuster.  Then the folding stock adapter (or buffer tube direct if you don't want to fold stock) screws into the back.

I can take pics to explain better if needed.

Both the FX & Law folding stock adapters would fit - the FX being 3 times cheaper than the Law.  I have the FFX adapter on my dreamtac ans whilst its not as meaty as the Law, ,it does hold everything tight in place fine

tbh, having seen the raw chassis before it was one of the reasons I got a vendetta, but raw didnt answer my emails and so i went another route, with the recent supply developments that is going to reawaken my interest

Yes, they aren't the best at replying to mails, however I have ordered off them a couple of times now and have an email address for someone in sales....she can't always help, but 9 times out of 10 she can.

wondered what happened to the safety catch tim.its all done just got to fine tune and do a full shot string.its a bit noisy with that short shroud for testing at night.

Hey Kev - thanks, looking forward to getting it back  . You've done it a lot quicker than I was anticipating, so thanks for that.

The safety catch is in my shed  .  For some reason it doesn't fit the chassis - too wide.  I was going to take a dremel to it, but decided just to drop it out and see if I like it.  I don't really trust them, so didn't see it as a big deal.


I didn't do any other thread Mick, although there are a couple floating around. Now I've sold the dreamtac, this is the only AR looking rifle I'll have...and as I know it's really a MFr at heart, I'm good.

Although Kev did tell me it's actually a late Mk1 block.....gotta love the bitsa rapids

not done it yet as need to get my filling bottle filled.go through loafs of air when working on them.if I hadn't already got 4 filling bottles would have got a compresser by now.should be testing tomorrow all being well.
