Are there any Rapids marked with "Mark1" like the Mark 2 is?  I read somewhere that after the mark 2 came out they produce a cheaper version or toned down version that they sold along side the mark 2 but referred to it as the mark 1? Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

What would indicate an early mark1, ie made before the Mark 2's and a mark 1 made after the introduction of a mark 2?

When the MK2 came out it was marked "MK11", "MFR" "S Type" etc in block letters on the left of the block, I think the MK1 just said "RAPID" as they all did in later years, as the same block was used on all models different marking was an unnecessary cost.

Before the mk2 they had a completely different marking system,  which is a long oval with Theoben England on the left, & the model/cal as 7/17, 7/22 12/22, 12/200 type of thing between the bolt & the mag slot on the right, if you go to the gallery you can find pics showing the older design.
