Theoben Rapid 7 Silencer with Vortex End Cap Effectiveness ?

Hi All, I have a Rapid Mk1 sub 12 ft.lb with the Theoben silencer with vortex end cap and have some questions on its sound deadening effectiveness please.

Firstly, is it a good silencer and does the vortex end cap actually do anything to further reduce noise levels?

Secondarily are there better moderators that people have found and if so which ones?

Thanks, C/

Well Let's just say.... they are better than Nothing....
But since you have access to KevG..
I hear(no pun intended) his Carbon Fiber Mods he make are Excellent...

Good Luck,
Stuart

The Theoben silencer is just about adequate, the Vortex end cap didn't make much difference to mine. My own custom baffles made it much better, but, a custom made silencer I developed with the help of Bucketboy was simply stunning. Kev G makes them just as good, so, go with him.

Thanks Stuart and Brooksey for the replies.
So basically the Theoben silencer is "adequate and can be improved on. But how noticable an improvement?

Would it be 10%, 30% or perhaps maybe 50% .

Peoples ears are different, how a mod sounds to you will be different to how it sounds to me, in the same way that different eyes like different scopes  ;)
All down to how we each detect different frequencies, so giving a % is virtually impossible.

Changing the baffles in the original Theoben can give a noticeable improvement, I'd guess at 30%.
Building a custom silencer, like I did, with five chambers of varying length, and baffle plate holes as close to the pellet diameter as you dare go, gave a massive improvement. I showed my cousin, an experienced shooter, he thought there was no air in the gun.

Here you go...UK-Neil's baffle design for the Theoben Moderator Tube.....

Yes, get well soon, KevG hope the ailment passes quickly. Nurse Zombie Rabid Fox may now have a dose of the flu to go with the rabies!

How do you get the baffles out?

I didn't want to force anything. I could get the vortex cap off but not the barrel end.

Ca_Varminter

Take off the Endcap,
Point the muzzle towards a pile of rags...
Fire it a couple time(no PELLET)
The Plastic baffles should just pop out!
