Let's start up front, I know between nothing and very little about the technicalities of Rapids, so please go easy on what is probably a simplistic question.
I've owned this modified Rapid for a number of years, but I do not know why this hole was machined into the underside of the stock, so can you guys please enlighten me?

Hi Dijon,
The screw you see through the hole is the block blanking plug in the bottom of the Rapid block. This can be removed and a quick fill fitting put in its place so the rifle can be filled with air without having to remove the bottle every time. This setup only works with a fast flow adapter fitted. Obviously the stock has to be drilled so you can access this quick fill fitting. Hooe this helps.

There are 2 obvious reasons for this hole....
!. Possibly the previous owner tried to install a QuickFill port.
It wouldn't have gone well since it probably regulated....
2. To install gauge to check on the Regulator Cutoff pressure..

Thanks guys - those answers pretty much tie in with what I've been told in the past, but there were always caveats re why it wouldn't work! I guess I'll have to delve deeper.

Just for point of reference....
Here is a proper install of a QF on a FastFlow Rapid done by myself.....

Slightly different setup using the RAW Backfillable QF.
It can bet setup to use with with or without a Reg....

It won't work if the rifle is regulated because a regulator is a valve that shuts off as soon as it has the pre-set pressure behind it,
so it's no use as a quick fill because you can't back fill the bottle through the reg above the firing pressure,
Nor is it much use as a pressure gauge, because it can't read the bottle contents, only the pressure the reg is set to shoot at.
So if reg'd the only practical option is a combined gauge/QF between bottle & reg as photo.

OTOH if the rifle is NOT reg'd the bottle & firing chamber have an open passage between them, so either QF or gauge would work,
but the combined unit is still better.
