Increasing ft lbs

Hi, my Mfr is running at 26ft lbs. What do the members on here think is the ideal level to run a hunting air rifle at. Also are there any negatives in bringing up your gun to the max ft lbs ?

Aggy

Many variables,
Pellet
Slug
Barrel type and twist rate
Distance to shoot at ect ect
I have a fx impact that I can get from as low as 12 ftlb but it's horrible there
To 60 plus 1153 FPS horrible there too
For me slugs are happy at around 1000 FPS and pellets about 850 ish .
If shooting close up ie sub 40 yard good fast is pointless you would be better with a sub 12

Hi Burrowman.
At the power you are shooting at there is no need to up the power as it is capable of shooting rabbits at well over the 50/60+yards if shot placement is taken into account.
I have taken rabbits out with clean head shots at over 165 yds with thermal scopes ask kevG he was there also ant the mod on here.
Im running at 28ft on a mk1 rapid.
Trigger stick used for balance.
Pellets used were aa diablo field 16g.
21 inch screwcut barrel.

A lot boils down to your capabilities and knowing your hold over on long shots which comes with practise in time on your shoots.

You might be better off putting the FPS  ;) 26ftlb is too much in .177, probably not quite enough in .22,
or bang on for a .20 shooting JSB's, but too much for a .20 shooting FTT's,  keep it at 900-950 fps using diabolo pellets.

Burrowman

Kev surely a kill at 165 yds is a misprint !!! Did you mean 65yds ?
Angry Bear my gun is .22 so If I up the ft lbs to 28 do you think that's the ideal level ?
Aggy it seems there is almost a science involved in accurate shooting, first I need my gun repaired then practice practice practice

No he means 165, there are a few of the old R7C crew that can shoot out to  the ranges that we mere mortals leave for the HMR.

Around 930-950 fps gives a 1/2 trajectory from 20-55yds....essentially point and shoot..and around 1/2" drop every 5yds to 75
Premiers / JSB Express do that with ease, 28-29ft/lbs leaves you 14ft at 65yds.

Accurate shooting is confidence in your gun, the ammo and experience.

Chairgun can help you with trajectory and drop at distance, it also allows you to increase the fps so you can see what affect that has at distance.

No not a spelling mistake it was shot at just over 165 yds and a clean quick kill head shot.
To get the hold over right we set up some small redbull cans with the base towards us and shot at them till we knew in the scope which mildot to use for hold over and shot placement.

Oh my god I would love to see that shot, it's in the territory of .22 rim fire rifles !!!

sauer

id say its beyond most  on a .22lr for everyday anyway

trajectory on .22lr lends itself to most out to 100yds maybe 120yd if know the gun and drop

but 165yd is in my humble opinion not an everyday off sticks shot for .22lr never mind an air rifle.

not disputing it at all... just not an "everyday" shot for most i think.

just shows that if shoot enough and get to know yer gun  / ammo combo  and its drop what can be done

cheers
Paul
