Dr Bob

I got a phone call a couple of weeks ago from a young engineer who used to work for one of the company's that did some machining for me. He asked, did they ever come up to my standards and get it right? The answer was no!! He remembers a slanging match I had with the production manager on the workshop floor and that my suggestion about him needing to make a jig for this particular job. He said he was tasked with that job and had said it needed a jig but was ignored.

Long story short.

This young man is local and has now set up on his own and asked if I needed any machining doing. I gave him a couple of drawings to price  he immediately found faults on them both that no other company had spotted. I was impressed. Not only did he get back to me by 8.30  PM the same day but he had machined and sent me a picture of a sample.

I called over to see his workshop and was even more impressed. It will by 5 years next February since I lost my good friend and very talented engineer Jason Hall  AKA Elmer Fud.

Hopefully this is going to be a good match and he can help with suggestions and take some load off  so I can get on with some more R & D.

Watch this space.

Bob

Good to have someone local Bob and maybe more of a personal touch with the man at the ' coal face' Quite often it's like Chinese whispers using a large company....

I've a good friend and engineer local to me who can do small bits for me.
You get things exactly the way you want.... Usually better😊

Great news Bob, sounds like just the guy you need. Local, knows what's he's on about and goes the extra mile. It's all sounds positive and look forward to seeing more items from yourself  :)

Very promising that Bob, here's to a good match for a long time to come.

Well his first offering has been delivered. A batch of HW 100 buddy bottle conversion bodies. He even took the trouble to go from Bradford to Sheffield to get them hard anodized within a week. I'm impressed. He is now on with some barrel location screws. He has suggested making them out of silver steel for the hardness and I agreed. The first batch will be slotted until we see how they sell. If they prove popular I will invest in the broaching tool to make them into a hex fitting as standard. Unfortunately the screw body looks like M7 x .75 thread and is not available commercially, so the whole thing will have to be made from scratch.
