This could involve all members and how they feel about it, and every comment will be taken into consideration.

Because the Theoben Rapid forum has low usage, I've been thinking about porting the entire site to my own server. My server is more than capable of running this site, along with several others.

What I'd like to propose is having the site run four days a week, mainly over the weekends when electricity costs are lower.

This is still very much a long-term idea at the moment, but it's something I'm considering in the next couple of years. The plan would be to host the site on my server and potentially keep it online four days a week, or possibly three depending on demand.

We have two years to think about this LOL so no rush.

So why are you considering this move to your server Kernal, is it cost, speed, less software support? What are the Pro`s & Con`s?

Crocweb is a fantastic server provider and we genuinely have no complaints about their service. However, I'm in favour of moving to our own dedicated server as it would allow us to significantly reduce costs. Those savings could then be reinvested into further upgrades and improvements for the server we manage ourselves.

The server I've already upgraded is performing very well at the moment, so migrating to it would also be a strong option in my opinion.

In addition, the Rapid forum currently has relatively low usage, which makes both of the above options practical and worth serious consideration.

I know nothing about servers/tech etc, but two years seems a way off & even I know tech changes fast, never mind where energy cost will be.
The only thing I would question is the wisdom of it becoming too privately run, I assume the current provider has back-ups galore ??

I do visit most days, yes new posts are slow, but there is so much priceless information it must be kept safe & available in the future.

The site is not going anywhere. This is simply a discussion about what we all think is best for the future of the forum—whether to leave it running on Crocweb or move it to our own server.

If the site were hosted on my own server at home, it would be more privately managed. However, Crocweb already provides extensive backups to keep the site secure, and my own server would also have robust backup systems in place.

As I've said, this is open for debate so we can all agree on what we want for the site and what's best going forward.

Have a great day everyone it`s been so hot here don`t know about you but we`ve had the fan on all night to keep cool.
