Back Out In The Woods With My MFR

Over the last few weeks I have been attending to a squirrel problem at the request of a landowner friend. Initially, I stalked the woods as there were squirrels everywhere. My first wander saw a quick twelve. However, as the numbers dwindled and the tree rats wised up, I turned to the feeder method.

My first feeder was an adapted wooden bird feeder which I filled with peanuts. It worked, but the little **ggers soon destroyed it. It was then I remembered that Keith, of Keith's Highseats fame, also made metal squirrel feeders.

One of these was deployed in the same spot and the fun continued. Very conveniently, no hide was necessary as a suitable spot presented itself 32 yards from the feeder. As I had zeroed at 30 yards, this was spot on.

I have now shot many squirrels. Rats also visit, which suffer the same fate. It's lovely to watch woodpeckers and nuthatches also drop in, although there is one woodpecker that has worked out how to extract peanuts by poking its beak down the side of the hinged lid of the feeder. Keith - you might need to modify your design!

Anyway, I'd forgotten how much fun airgunning is and I'm really enjoying reacquainting myself with my MFR and all it can do. There are still plenty of squirrels to deal with, so the fun can continue.

Thank you. The MFR speaks for itself, but the tripod has been a revelation. It's lightweight and very steady and provides the perfect setup for accuracy as part of an ambush scenario. I've also gone for an Alpex 4K LRF, which is an amazing bit of kit. Things have certainly moved on, but the MFR remains rugged and reliable and I see no reason to lust after FXs etc!

Is that a "Bog death grip" tripod ? certainly looks rather nice.
& an AWT mod if I'm not mistaken, nice set-up.

It's a Roetex Ranger tripod. Yes, the moderator is indeed an AWT. It does the job, so I see no reason to change it. I must have had it nearly twenty years!
