I just bought this new 280cc alloy bottle from Best Fittings with their version of a Theoben adapter in it. My question is should this screw up completely to the reg to stop any movement. There is still a sideways movement even after screwing the bottle on as far as possible, i can see that the rubber o ring has been compressed but so much so that its stopping the bottle from screwing up fully.
What do I need to do to rectify this guys.
Doesnt look right at all.
Did you fit the bottle with the stock on or off?
If fitted with the stock on, are you sure its not the stock inletting, preventing the bottle going in far enough?
Definitely nothing to do with the stock, its the connection between the bottle and the reg. it appears to be the o ring not allowing the bottle to screw in fully, its as if the o ring is too thick in its depth, but its the correct o ring.
Is this a MFR??
Then No O-ring needed...
But still, the O-ring shouldn't obstruct the bottle screwing on..
Have you tried it without the O-ring??
Also are you lubing the O-ring??

This is on a Rapid 7 1997 Mk1, 280cc alloy bottle
I agree the o ring shouldn't obstruct the contact faces, I did try it without the o ring and it screwed right up as i expected, leaked air like crazy but did screw up properly. I recently had KevG fit one of his Reg's to it but I don't see that being an issue cos he knows what's he's doing.
I did use a smear of Moly33 on the o ring before screwing the bottle up, I can actually see the o ring rubber squashed in the gap its not really visible in the photos, Ive tried 3 different o rings and the result is the same ?????

I was chatting with KevG recently about using different bottles.
Kev metioned that over time, threads can set to each other. It may be that the receiving thread on the rifle has simply stretched to the bottle used previously.
Id have a word with Kev.
Have you compared the threads to the ones on the old bottle ?
thing is the reg I'm screwing into is new from KevG, my old 400cc bottle has recently had a Dr Bob replacement valve fitted and I've bought a new 280cc bottle so everything is new and should work but something is not right, to be honest I'm kinda hoping KevG will jump on this thread and throw some expertise at it !!
don't like the best fittings bottle valves.they can be a pain in the backside.maybe energising to early
KevG
May need a little taking of the sealing pip inside the bottle valve.have you also tryed a normal black oring.

I think you may be right with energising too early Kev.
The BS valve on the 100cc bottle, I got for my superten, didnt half need some winding in after it went stiff. Went a fair way until it eventually locked up.
the bottle pip should be 2.7 to 3mm deep into the bottle.

Where is this measurement taken from, I assume the bottle pip is the piece that is pushed back when the bottle is screwed on to allow air flow to the reg
yes thats it.you could alway send me bottle valve and reg and I could match valve to reg.

Thing is Kev the more I look at quickfills the more I like them, no need to unscrew the bottle once fitted just fill with a hose and go out shooting. I see Bob does one and I've bought bits from him before so he's well known on here, would one of his quick fill adapters be a good investment ? Thing is does he do one for a 280cc bottle if he does £100 to stop a load of messing about seems good value to me.
yes bobs quick fills are spot on m8.and much better than the best fitting ones.
KevG
OK then, thanks guys for all your help on this one I'll be getting and fitting one of Dr Bobs QF adapters as soon as I can get hold of him
Like kevg said might be energizing to early not letting it screw up home them best fitting valves can be adjusted in or out I think cant remember or needs shortening bit .
