Title: MFR barrel mods and options
Post by: MFRGUY on October 21, 2025, 09:01:23 AM
Hello,

When I brought my MFR it had the original barrel in place, long storey short I tapped the barrel while moving it and after that the pellet would almost tumble out a tad, I think this is called clipping. With no real sign of what it was clipping I just brought another barrel as I wanted to use it. It's been great using it but I'd now like to get fixing the original and while I'm at it make it quieter as the one thing I notice when I fitted the standard barrel with a HW mod everything went  quieter

I can remember reading about the mods people were doing years back and the hair curlers an wool always stuck in my mind.

While trailing around the internet I come across this website that I can remember finding donkeys ago. ⬇️

https://www.hurwitt.me.uk/airgun/Technical/mfr_silencer/silencing_the_theoben_mfr.htm

Is what they are explaining still a pretty good way to go about it? I've sourced the curlers and wool felt. Can anyone cut me some .5mm thick discs with a hole in the middle?again the website states 22.8mm wide. I can mod the alu vented support I'm just going to drill the original holes a bit bigger and add a row of holes behind the original ones also.

I'm open to opinions and different options. I'd like a carbon fibre shroud but I can't find anything about making one of those yet? Any ideas chaps?

What could the pellet have been clipping on? there is no signs of what it was hitting the little grub screws were all tight and firm no marks on the end cap.

I'm going to polish the barrel and fit it without the shroud before I do and mods to see if thats shooting ok and go from there.

Also what is the rubber size on the end cap? (See photos for reference)I can't find a reference for that anywhere. And finally is the rubber on the alu vented support 18.5mm I/D, 1.75mm C/S as stated in the web link?
