Title: Non Airgun Hobbies...
Post by: rgc_swanseaARC on May 30, 2020, 05:23:59 PM
So Gents,

What's your non Airgun Hobbies?

I race karts, do track days in my own car and keep tropical fish... How about you?

Much like with airguns I love to tinker and perfect things if I can, so racing and cars comes naturally.
The aquaria I've always been around as a kid, but i have in the last 6 mths set up a tank in our house and last night had one of my fish give birth to around 20 little fish... Its all about the challenge of making the fish healthy, at home and then when they breed its the icing on the cake to show you got it right.

What interests you guys when you don't have a pellet in your hand?

Regards
Rhys

There is nothing I enjoy more that sitting outside my touring caravan on a warm evening with a nice glass of red. Not sure if it's a hobby but I enjoy it.

I do lock picking ...... its known as locksport 😎
Using professional grade picks and tension bars and opening all sorts of pin tumbler locks - I've bought a few old paddocks from ebay too and managed to pick them open without knowing the bitting of the key or if there are any side pins employed 😎

Many locks employ anti pick measures and specially shaped pins to try and stop pick attacks - but once you get the feel for the different pin types you can guess what you're dealing with 👍

The pic below shows a number of euro locks that I've opened using the single pin pick method 😎

Been there m8 spent many years on the bank.
I was also the owner of Yorkshire bait co ltd.
Back in the day I used to wholesale 54 products to over 1800 shops in the uk.
I held all the contracts for the commercial fisheries involved with fisomania as I used to whole sale my baits to them in there packaging.
I launched my bait company with my invention which was the first floating paste of its kind which could be made up on the bank with pond water the paste floated so I called my product ZERO G.
Spent a little over 19 years on the carp side and I retired 3 years ago after cracking clumber Park.
This video below was a small water only allowed 2 rods and it took me some time to catch the only fish I wanted from there a 26LB Leather carp.

Today I am an investor in Antique glass and have built up a very nice rare collection over the years which is there for my wife and two sons when I'm gone.
Another passion I invest in and enjoy playing are electric guitars and have 15  in my collection to date.

Here are a few pics of a small part of my glass collection and guitar collection.
A lot of my glass has be displayed at museums over the years and has been on display at exhibitions here in the uk.
I'm known for my collection all over the world now.
you don't even want to know when it comes to insuring it that I can tell you is a knight mare.

Enjoy.

KCE that is interesting.

You may be able to shed some light on something for me.
My mum has in her possession a filigi (or however its spelt) round handle for want of a better word that was given to her by a grandparent that was fighting in Italy during ww2.

He told her and she has no reason to disbelieve that it was taken from a set of glass stairs in the Vatican when the soldiers fought in/around it.

Its very pretty and you can see from underneath it was definitely attached to something.

I will ask her to take a picture of it.

We have taken it to one or two antique places and they didn't seem to know anything further.

Rhys

didn't Duncan Kay sell a floating/fizzing Slyme bait?
Title: Re: Non Airgun Hobbies...

Duncan kay brought out an active feed bait product with floating particles back in his day.
The product I invented was a cast able paste for the course angler to use based on active ingredients like  Calcium Caseinate/Sodium caseinate/Isolated pea Protein/among other ingredients.
I did take it to the head office of Van Den Eynde in the uk where i met the owners Mark Sawer/Bob Nudd/and Marcel Eynde.
They were blown away with the product and offered to take it on board and put it in to there world wide out lets for me, but they wanted to put Jan Porter onto the front of the packaging I had made up for the product and advertise in all magazines that he was the inventor of the product as at that time the worlds best angler who they sponsored.
It was an offer of a life time for me an open check book is what they say.
I said no to there offer I was the inventor and I wanted the recognition and the credit for it I deserved it.
Later on that day a contract was drawn up by them and me that if ever I changed my mind or invent any other bait products they wanted full rights to them before I went to market with them myself.
I am a firm believer there is more to life than money and I have a copy of that contract with me to day still.

Hi Rhys.

Your weight is known as a scramble weight in pattern and the broken pontil to the base tells me it is dated to about 1880/1890/.
I'm unsure to the make as I cant really see the canes inside it.
A thing to take onboard that paperweights can range in value from as little as £1 and right up to half a million.
Here is a very good site I can recommend for you to upload it on or I can do it for you.
I have trusted buyers world wide also regarding any glass items and museums which is also handy.
will look for the link and get back to you.
Can you send me a few close ups please would also help id it  Rhys.

Regards Kev.

Hi Kev,

Very interesting.
We would love to know more about it, I am getting you some close up pics.

Even if it is of little to no value it is still interesting to know all the same.

Thank you.

Once I get some close ups I will get out my books which is vast lol.

Regards Kev.

PS once I identify it I will try get you all the history of the glass maestro who made it and who he worked for over the years.
I will let you in to a little secret if you look at most glass paperweights with ultra violet black light you will see things within the paperweight that you cant see with the human eye.
Also if you display it on a windowsill and let the morning sun shine through it from the back look at the reflection it gives off.

Ps never leave any glass on the window for long as you can start fires easy that way.

Here is an example of what I am talking about.
These are  my rare textured Mdina glass jugs made in around 1969 by a well known famous glass blower that was from Italy who went to malta to work for mdina glass.
Before he went there he worked in the uk for many years with his son for the famous Whitefriars glass company.
He was called Vicente Boffo.
While he was at Whitefriars glass he made a range of very rare glass Penguins which are collected worldwide now.
When he went to work for Michael Harris at Mdina Glass he made the range of textured jugs with a hidden secret that only a few of us know about.
look a the reflection of the mdina jugs what do you see.

Title: Re: Non Airgun Hobbies...
Post by: KCE on May 31, 2020, 10:48:10 PM
Yes thank you.
I do recognise what we call is ribbons and lace within the weight.
The base which I thought was a broken pontil seems to be very proud which is very strange as most broken pontil tend to be embedded into the glass base so the piece sits firm.
Due to the colourways in the piece and style I have a few company's in mind which I will look into Old English/Richardson's/Baharat/St Louis/Clichy/ are all along the style of that type of weight.

Regards Kev.

Give me a few days Rhys as when it comes to paperweights you have to be very careful as I said they can be extremely valuable.
The good thing I have seen thousands over the years and this is a new one on me so could be something special.

Hi Rhys.
I was up till gone 5 am this morning reading my paperweight books.
I have come to the conclusion your paperweight is antique and European but I'm not 100% sure where from. Could well be an early good quality Murano. Possibly bohemian. Looks like it's a bit scratched or pitted. Could maybe do with a polish to get the best from it.
It is a lot older than I originally thought around 250/300 years old could be older.
I will continue my research for you now I know I'm on the right track.

Regards Kev.

Thank you Kev, this is so interesting.
As I say my mum was told by her grandad it was a war souvenir that the soldiers took from the Vatican.
Cannot prove or disprove it but no reason to see why not

Hi Rhys.
I am still looking into it for you.
There are 1000,s of glass manufactures that have evolved over a great many years on the Irelands of Murano.
I am looking into some of the most famous ones back in the day to see if I can pin down a maker of paperweights.
Paolo Venini/Dino Martens/Favio Poli/Vulvio Biaconi/to name but a few.
I will not give up on this subject so will take time.
Regards Kev.
