Title: Reg Question
Post by: Chips on September 24, 2023, 04:51:57 PM
Hi - have a few questions whilst mid-surgey on a couple of regs for a mk2 rapid.

The stainless steel core on the left is the original from my rifle - works well, has different o ring sizes plus uses a circlip to hold in place. Note black delrin pip.

The brass core on the right is from a new mk2 reg - looks like the white pip is damaged ?

Can anyone tell me a little about these two - why and how they differ ?

I am looking for a nice reg to replace the old - any advice on servicing or upgrade - what's out there ?

Cheers,

C.

The stainless/circlip core is an early one, the black delrin looks overlength and has mushroomed without support
Saying that I read somewhere  Theoben originally used pieces of hard o-ring for nose seals.

And the brass one...needs a new core nose- imo looks like a bad repair and/or was too short.
The delrin may have compressed into a void...E-blag reg?

yes looks like the  sealing face as compressed inwards.you have to be very care with this repair as the core on the small front oring groove is very fragile, you only have 0.5mm of brass wall from the oring groove to the flow bore.

Ok thanks - interesting. The stainless one works fine ( when I finally replace o-rings ) - never missed a beat otherwise. The brass reg is from Ebay and I have had nothing but trouble with it - never got it to work despite sending it back for repair.
Am thinking I need to find another elsewhere or get a decent repair.
Can anyone help with servicing or sourcing a new one ?
Many thanks,
C.

I had loads of problems with Ebay regs.
Two crept every 70-80 shots irrespective of rebuilds until I replaced the core noses, a third; the end-float was so far out it wouldn't close and was returned.

Send it up to Kev ;)

Yeah had a feeling I could be in for a tough learning curve with Ebay ! -

Kev would you be up for working on this reg for me ? or should I bin it and stick with the old original which seems to be a well made beast.

Thanks 🙏

No that wasn't me -

What I have decided to do Kev is return the Ebay reg - it's never worked and I can use my original stainless one for now. Then wait until something decent pops up.

I'll send you my original for a service if I may - just to be sure it's still healthy after all these years !

I have your details - will post special.

Regards

C.

That's a good job, he's got loads where the owner didn't bother to put their name in the box! 😁
