Title: Want to try a different valve mk1
Post by: Eddie on October 20, 2022, 06:54:18 AM
Hi  my mk1fac 25cal rapid  is running  around  38 to 40ftlbs   with  a double spring set up  that I'm not keen on really  hard to cock and feel it's stressing the rifle

Is it possible  with a different hi flo valve and some porting work done to stay around 40ftlbs but but run one spring  set up   ,  any  ideas  would be much appreciated  ,

The short answer is yes and it may not be necessary to modify the block porting.

mk1 25cal  from what I've seen  40ftp is about  max    , at the time  I couldn't afford a mk2   shame  as I think  45ftp ish would  be perfect  hunting tool don't get my wrong  40ftp is bloody nice after sub 12 rifles  rabbits out to 80yards  just amazing   ,    I want to service the rifle  and maybe  get some upgrades done  at the same time  got it all in bits now  so good  time .

The steel one is a Bucketboy valve, I made a new stem/top-hat for that...accidental double load 42gr @ 54fpe..stalled the valve and put the faintest bend in the stem
They're a straight swap for 35-37fpe+ in .22.

A version is available on e-bay..... that appeared shortly after Pete put the drawing on t'other Rapid forum.
Haven't tried one there are those who will say its not a Bb valve but it does the job.
I'll be honest..the ebay sellers regs are a bit hit and miss which had put me off.

The PEEK valve is one I made, have a couple in sub-12s but  I still run one of Kevs in my MK2 Air-Miser 500+ shots in 177  8)

Steve & Johnny at HW100 Tuning have made the 'PurePeekValve', as above..all PEEK short-body & top-hat.
They've been developing it for a while. reports on FAC gains have been good.

I was sent a tester  from their first run before I got my lathe.
Athough I can make my own .. I haven't felt the need take it out and put my own in..
My regged FAC R7 is zipping out JSB Express @ 30ft on a sub-12 spring with that.

Anything is possible with a rapid....
I run my Titanium Rapid @ 70 fpe!
The valve is a custom stainless valve-body with a tapered titanium valve
The stem is precision tuned and polished with no O-ring groove
The valve-body tail and sealing face are Delrin lined.

The Short body design helps with flow and consistency.

Good luck,
Stuart

I would still like to get a little more oomph out of my RAW currently 50 ftlb with 25.4 grain slugs
Very similar valve to yours Kev I'm getting around 950 fps but would like to be over 1000 then turn down if I want to
