Title: Airgun forum (AGF)
Post by: nevadacowboy on July 01, 2022, 11:27:59 PM
Has anyone got any idea what is going on with the AGF.  All I get is a message saying server cannot be found. It has been like this all day.

Hi guys

I'm a mod over on AGF and at the moment we (mod team) are in the dark over it all just like everyone else. If and when I get any info I will update this thread, until then the forum is off line

Sorry you guys have been banned off there, I didn't know that.

Really sorry to hear this Kev, if I've known I would of helped sort the issue out for you.

This must of happened when I had a few weeks off line up Scotland (no 4G signal)

If and when the forum comes back online please let me sort a new account for you  :)

Hey Guys,
I have been following the topic, so decided to investigate.
Well there is something Rotten going on here!!!
It is not a "server" down or not responding problem
It is like they abandon or didn't renew its site license!!
So if I try to "ping" or do a" trace route" on www.airgunforum.co.uk
it comes back as invalid name!!!
Not Good.....
Somebody may have Hijack it!!

Agree re server down / not responding, all dns records have been removed as far as I could tell, likewise the hosting company are fully operational with no reported problems so not a downed dns server not replicating from what I could see. So not the usual "outage", so my initial thoughts were it's either been hacked and / or deliberately taken offline.

As I say guys, the mod team are still in the dark until Andy comes back to us. We only run the forum and he owns the forum.

What I will say the mod team has spent all weekend taking calls from members because there stressed, worried, frustrated because alot of deals where going on in sales and alot of money/kit is in no man's land as we speak.

Good info running with the ping/trace thing. It's beyond me as such (I'm into airguns not tech stuff). The more info we get the better but we are in the dark with it all just like everyone else.

Hi The Robin,

Well this is why you give the Hosting company, a list of Trusted Mods or Admins.
So someone other than the Owner can enquire about Site problems...
Something to think about when the Owners gets back to town.

Stuart I totally agree with what your saying but it was a closed deal. He was the owner full stop, he didn't want to include any of us in on having the keys to the place.

I said it before and a few others did, we need to have a second member as an emergency just incase something happens.

A FB group has been created so old members can chat etc

Well wanting sole control of the Site is One thing......
Giving someone emergency access to Tech Support is another...
You are not wanting access to the site to change anything.....
You are needing emergency access to Tech support for any Sort of Outages!!!
This can easily be setup on the account by the Hosting site
Having one or two Mods/Admins having access to Tech support, keep the site UP
This is the Practical and Responsible thing to do for your members...

In my Honest Opinion of course, after help run a couple of sites..
Good Luck
Stuart

Hi Stuart

Yes it would of been the responsible thing to do with having an emergency list like you say but it never happened. It wasn't with our lack of trying though. What can you do when the powers that be don't want to do so.

I'm sure here and other forums do have an emergency list so things continue when a problem arises.

A new forum is happening in the back ground as we speak so keep an eye out on the FB link

Well on this site there is not just me that holds a key to the domain at this moment in time i think we have three key holders to open all the doors needed if one of us decided to call it a day,
That being said i was going to debate this in our private admin section with other admins regarding key holders and maybe we should expand our key holders from three to four admins now as this site is a solid platform.

But as for the AGF if that site has gone down maybe they just though what the hell enough is enough and just let it go, Never mind hey i`m sure someone else will be thinking about another AGF to replace the old one, But that being said i can also bet the old AGF would never give his database backup to the other member who is thinking of starting a new.
Sods law if you ask me,

Have fun.

Kernal coding for fun in 2022  with his good freinds on here ;)

Yes one of our mods Steve drove to Andy's house this morning. The next door neighbor told Steve Andy had passed away a few weeks ago.

Very sad news and explains why the forum went down. RIP Andy .

I had no idea who owned AGF but it is a damned shame to see it go.

I had an odd feeling about one of the members albums, I found that he had uploaded all of the AGW Theoben articles and adverts to the site and I planned to download the images to my desktop.
I thought nahh not as if it's R7OC.. AGF backs up regularly... then AGF was gone.
