Title: Where I am going with this???****FX M3 IN .22******
Post by: Ca_Varminter on February 25, 2022, 12:39:24 AM
Well it all started with the talk of the FX Smooth-Twist barrels...
I think I am going back down a Rabbit Hole.....
It starts Here....Cutting up a section of Carbon Fiber tube..

Well this project is leading me to drill, thread and countersink part of it's barrel block.....

I just finish precisely drilling a 5mm hole and threading it for 6x1 mm....

Here is the parts of my internal 2 piece countersink cutter
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/fxm3/websize/Counterbore1.jpg)

This how it looks assembled.

Here is doing it's job in the bore for the Barrel... So there are no burrs in the bore!!

I must be suffering from Covid Psychoses!!!
More to Come... I hope...

Post by: Ca_Varminter on March 14, 2022, 03:04:51 AM
Hey Guys...
Well this Adventure is taking to places I haven't been to for Years....
I am needing to do a mod for my S&B PMII scope
So this meant I had to fabricate new Parts from scratch....to My Specs...

I had turn down and bore Some 3" Delrin.

Then Cut to Length.

Next come the Adapter made from Aluminum  That needs turning and Fitting!
Do You See where I am going with This???

All the Required index drilling for the securing screws was done on my Lathe .
Just too lazy to setup the CNC Mill to do all these holes!
Here I am drill the three screw holes to secure the aluminum adapter.
I am using the Jaws of my 3-jaw chuck to index the position of the hole to be drilled.
I lightly secure a small vice-grip on one jaw. Then rest the vice-grip handle against the Lathe bed.

Now I am off to my CNC Mill for Some Final Shaping..
Here is the shaping of the pointer base, in my rotary table on my CNC mill.

Here I am milling Finger notches.

Well If you are Totally Lost, I will tell What I am making....
It is an Large Elevation Knob for my S&B PMII scope!

First is the Pointer base of the Knob... I still have to fabricate a pointer!

Next come the Adapter Post the secures to the Scope's adjustment turret.

Finally the Elevation Knob.....

The finishing touches to follow. The Pointer.
Then the Actual marking on the Knob.
This done using a great little program call Scopeknob by Eric Sanders
First you enter the your setup.. Width of knob, and Diameter.
Next input the how many clicks per turn of the knob. The amount of adjustment per click.
Now you input actual shooting info for various ranges..
It has a built in Ballistic Calculator.
The program now will generate a "tape" the show the range and how many "Clicks" are required.
It also has the ability to fine tune the dimensions of the tape to fit your knob.
Also adjust the click setting for actual ranges you want to adjust!

Here is what it will look like.... this is from my Nikko-Sterling
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/ultimaterapid/websize/scopeknoptape.jpg)

That's all for Now...
Stuart

Well I am still testing my new Project....
Well the Single Tap Hammer Spring Guide is on Ver. 4!!
The press-on design with red Loctite.. did not hold up like I expected..
It came a part after a couple of test shots...

So Here is the Version 4!!!
I had to cut threads in the base and tail.

Now It is screwed together, with a drop of blue loctite to get it all together...

That's all for Now....
Everything will be revealed very Soon!

Another Piece of Puzzle.
I haven't made K-Baffles for at least 10 years.....
Well I fired up my little lathe, and started to cutup some Delrin.
Here is one of 3 I need to make...
They are going to be 1.85 inches in diameter, the length will vary.

After I make all 4 K-baffles. I will use my CNC mill and rotary table to drill the baffle hole in the base of them!

Stuart
Title: Re: Where I am going with this???
Post by: Ca_Varminter on April 07, 2022, 12:03:05 AM
Here is a tiny update.
I finished my K-Baffles.
They will be used in an extension for my new Mod....
Yes they have changed the standings of "Moderator" on airguns...
Since the have been gain some popularity....
Airguns on this side of the Pond are not considered a Firearm!
of course with any Law, it is up to the interpretation it!

So back to my K-baffles..
I setup my rotary table on my CNC mil... Wrote a small program to drill the holes.
Just kicked backed and wait to switch out K-baffles...
I am using a 1/4" Endmill..

Time for me to sweep and vacuum my CNC enclosure...
That's all for Now!!

Stuart

The on going Saga...... Stuart's new Toy...
Well I have just finished the moderator mods....
Here is the moderator extension tube. With the K-baffles, standoff spacer and seal shims..

Here is the extension tube with K-baffles and standoff spacer insert.
Next comes those blue gasket seal shims to make sure there is no rattle.....
This is the entry end!! Then end cap will have the standard 1/2"x20 threads for the barrel.

Now is the the Debut of the DonnyFL FATBOY Moderator.
This is from a company in Florida, USA.
They used to be on the advert. banner on our board!
It made to be used in any caliber from .177 to .30 caliber
It come with 3 air-stripper inserts for various calibers
It's end cap is also threaded for the standard 1/2x20 threads for the barrel.

It has an integrated air-stripper. But I add the muzzle-brake accessory the allow you to still use the stripper!

So you take off the end cap of the Moderator.
This exposes the threaded baffles.
This will allow the extension tube to attach!
The end of the extension tube has the 1/2x20 threads to accept the threaded barrel.

So if I am concerned about noise I can use the extension with the Moderator..
Or in the field, just the Moderator.
Here it is with it fully assembled....

Title: Re: Where I am going with this???

Oops... :o :o :o :o :o :o
Then dimensions to my Moderator..
Without the extension, the FatBoy Mod is 5 1/2" in Length, 2" in Diameter.
This includes the Muzzle break add-on

With the extension... the Fat Boy is now 11 1/4" in length!!!

Well another First....
I decided to Flame Color my Titanium Handle!
Use some Acetone to strip any oil on the surface.
Put in the chuck of my lathe and started to spin it.
Using a Propane torch to heat it..
Kept the flame moving..
Then had to flip, since the chuck acts like a perfect heatsink!

Soon, Very soon... my toy will be revealed

Stuart
Title: Re: Where I am going with this???
Post by: Ca_Varminter on April 21, 2022, 08:46:56 PM
Well the Big Reveal is Almost here..
I am doing a few finishing touches to it so I can get her ready for the Field!

Here is another piece of the puzzle....
I had to fabricate an adapter for a QD sling socket!
It will screw into the my adjustable Butt-pad assembly!
I machined up a piece of Stainless in the lathe... Internal thread is M5 the external thread is M8.
Here I am doing the next step, milling some flats into the adapter..

Here is the QD cup, flathead screw, and the adapter I made.

Next I install the adapter in the my adjustable butt-pad assembly.

With the QD cup installed.

Finally here it is with the sling swivel install....

We are getting very close guys!!

Enjoy, I hope....
Stuart :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
Title: Re: Where I am going with this???
Post by: Ca_Varminter on April 22, 2022, 11:44:10 PM
Well some good ideas can always be improved..
I was looking at the QD Sling socket adapter, it just didn't look right...
So more time on the lathe and some Stainless Steel.

First I decided to cut an internal hex, to use an Allen key to install.
Just like the barrel indexing screw on the MKII!
To do this I used my Rotary Broach cutter I made a bit ago.

So I cut the same internal and external threads.
The Adj. Butt-pad had a grub screw for adjustment.
I reomved it and made the QD Socket adapter longer.
It will act like the grub screw...

Here it is mounted in the Adj. Butt-Pad.

Now with the QD Cup mounted. I think this looks a bit more Slick!

Atb,
Stuart

This all started with the all the talk about the smooth-twist barrels!
I started to a little research on them and how they would like slugs.
Well one thing lead to another, a few Youtube videos later.
I was Hooked... There seems to be a lot of enthusiasts down in So. Africa.
They are Rocking the slugs out past 200 yards!.

Then it seems the Corbin, the guy I get my slug swaging equipment from..
He has been working along side some of these guys, making the dies to their specs.
They allowed him, to sell the basic designs, letting the end user to make their own final designs

Here is my gun case for my NEW FX M3 in .22
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/fxm3/websize/FX%20M3.jpg)

So finally she has officially made Her Grand Appearance!

Fully assembled, with my sling Mod...

She sports a 38 shot Mag.... Definitely no Dr Bob's Quality!!
Plastic molded, with machining in key areas!

A 580cc Carbon fiber bottle. 250Bar-old (the one I have) or 300 bar -new style.
The Big features are:
2-Regs!!!
One on the bottle adapter (High side)
Mine is set to 180bar
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/fxm3/websize/FX%20M3-6.jpg)

Second is for the larger pre-chamber/plenum.
Min is set at 150 bar.

Next the Hammer pre-tension is fully adjustable too!
It has a large wheel, The Macro adjustment
Then a small finger wheel, The Micro adjustment...

Finally the exhaust Valve is fully adjustable for amount of tension/travel...

So she is fully tune-able for your type of shooting.
It also has a 700mm barrel sleeve made for Slugs..
I been waiting for the 800mm to come in from your side of the Pond!
I have made up some 31 grn slugs to try in her.
I will post my results...
So much more Playing to do Now... Also I need to haul out my compressor to fill my Tank!

Still more to Come, I sure of that!!

Another update on the M3 project.
Still waiting on the 800mm barrel liner and 300bar bottle.

In preparation, I did a little more work on the Lathe.
It involves Tungsten, Stainless Steel and some Peek rod material.
I made a heavier hammer.

The Center piece is Tungsten. Including an integral Pip extension is located on end. The body was also threaded.
Then I machined the outer body tube from a piece of Stainless rod.
Then I internally threaded it and secured it on to the Center piece

Finally I chucked up a piece of Peek rod.
It was drilled and machined to fit the pip extension on the center piece.
The will act like a silent pip...

Here is the new Hammer with the original on the bottom...

So for a weight comparison....
Here is the original hammer and spring guide... 378 grains
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/fxm3/websize/Stock%20hammer.jpg)

This the new tungsten Hammer and "single" tap spring guide!...668 grains
(https://photos.imageevent.com/scl_electronics/gun/fxm3/websize/M3%20Tungsten%20hammer2_1.jpg)

She is coming together Slowly!!

My impact has undergone another rebuild it now sports the mk2 trigger / main block c/w Huma reg ,lovely grey laminate pistol grip twin transfer port , power wise it will comfortably beat my RAW HM1000x but at the moment my raw is much nicer to shoot has a better trigger and is more accurate, what gains have you got from the tungsten hammer ,doe the hammer ride on the peek or the hammer itself , nice work btw

what gains have you got from the tungsten hammer
So I am Going  for Long Range POWER.. Swaging Heavy Slugs...So this setup Loves High 2nd Reg Pressure..160-175bar..
This will requires a bigger impulse from the Hammer to open... So a heavy Hammer is my solution!!
(also the spring guide/single tap ride in the hammer, so that is why I made it out of Tungsten too!)

Quote from: Aggy on June 02, 2022, 07:13:55 AM
doe the hammer ride on the peek or the hammer itself
Well the PEEK pip insert and the hammer are bored to the same Diameter..
So it rides on both!!

So It is Jan 1st. I decided to start on resealling and cleaning my PCPs.
For My M3s, I wanted to do something I have been putting off...
Making PEEK Valves ..

It starts out sizing the PEEK rods, drill and final Ream the holes.
I cut them a bit long, so I face one end , then the other to final length!

I using some polishing cloth one the sealing side. To get it to a mirror finish

The reamed hole is .005" undersized, so I press them on using my lathe and tailstock...(no glue needed)

Now I cut the 20ยบ taper...I mount the valve-stem into a spare coupler unit.

Take off the coupler and dress the tapered end.

So here is the finished Valve-stem unit.....

I also gave myself an early Xmas present, I Picked up a DFL Yokozuna, and a QD base section that will fit my Fat Boy v2.(Moderator mfg on this side of the pond!)

But since I also have the Extension w/k-baffles I machined for the FatBoy. I wanted still wanted to use it.
So I machined the existing base of the extension to fit the threads on the Stub of the QD Base.
I measured it at 25mm x 1.00mm pitch..
So I first Machined a piece of Delrin  to test fit...making sure the 25mmx1.00mm was right,

It worked, so now to machine the extension base....

Perfect fit. So now I can use the extension too with the QD system!!

thanks Kev,

What you are working on sounds interesting....
Here was My Solution....
I made a Multiple piece bolt handle out of my Titanium Bolt handle....
I Made a rotating collar to act like a "Bearing" between the Bolt and Gate..

The result was astounding... No more Notchy Lockups!!!
Just a smooth lockup action!!

Good Luck, Glad to see you are Back!!..
Stay Healthy M8 !!!!!!
