But is said and done Phil didn`t think ahead tbh and i know the truth hurts but backing up a database is a first because when a site goes down the database has all the information to store and re-create the site you developed,
I have nothing against the old rapid forum and may it rip,...but that being said if i had let Phil know about my coding skill`s this may or may not have happened,...but hey ho who knows.
KevG even said if only i had told them what i could do instead of just posting like i did,...???? tbh like everyone did if i was honest...
Lets be honest here,...it was not my place or my time to be involved in Phil`s work,...Even tho i loved the old rapid forum too,....Maybe if i had been involved things could have been so different or maybe not i dunno!...
I dunno i just do what i do and try my best to help my friends the best i can and i do hope Phil from the old rapid fourm is doing well and also his family, I wish him and his family all the best for the years to come.

on how to run and Maintain it!!!....Backing-up the Data and Structure of his Site
Many of my clients still don't have a grasp on why Backups are needed...

I was on the old forum and I know it had its problems with backups/upgrades etc and a lot of information was lost. I also know that Phil had health problems but I don't see what he had to gain by not either selling the forum or at least passing on the information that was on it. There was a lot of information on that forum and sadly it has all been lost. A lot of members have posted what they saved personally but it will never be able to replace the amount of information and knowledge that was on the old forum.
Well the new version of the old forum does have most if not all of the info, so I'm not sure what info has been lost ?

Its not just the PDF / tech data; there was a lot more information in the posts.
The kind of stuff nobody sees unless they use the search button and look further than the first page of results ;)
When I joined up in 2016 I started off reading old posts made by Phil, Kev, Sam.. snippets of very useful info that have vanished.
fully agree that backups are a very basic requirement.....but lets be honest, who actually backs up their iphone monthly? quarterly? I do....now, but I got bit and lost about 3months worth of data....not too bad.
At work, we had a cyber attack which effected 80,000 people....luckily I was using the cloud for storage and all I lost were my favourites (which hadn't been backed up for 6 months or so). I had friends who lost years worth of stuff , just because they had it on their hard drives.....
People will only back up once they have been bitten......
In terms of the forum, the knowledge is in both places as members were split....however I do frequent this one more if I am honest, don't know why - it just happened that way.....so something must be going right ;D
The one thing I don't understand is why the hosting company hadn't taken backups...was it something which simply wasn't paid for?
Was a member on the old forum for years - yep loads of great info was lost and some great posts too.... but I'm sure that most of the information is still around and there's a fair bit on here - its a shame that the forum was lost but I think we have a forum now that is being managed correctly and looked after. The membership has continued to increase and more information added - things are looking good 👍

Well that has been a Question that has been around since the Start of the Internet WeB Services...
You would think it would be include in the Hosting fees!!
Or at least, Offer it in Black and White... as a Add-on fee...
Well back to Reality...The Only Backup I would trust for my Website... Is the One I would do Myself!!
Back in the day of AirgunAdvice..the site's server got hacked.... we lost everything....
Well the only backup the Hosting site had was 3 months old....only a Partial backup!!
But luck I was backing up the entire site on my NAS Raid drive every Week!!

Or Phil may have run out of funds to pay for the site,...That`s also an option too.
Maybe just maybe he spent all the funds that got donated on himself and his family and just give up on hosting fee`s dunno just a thought!

Also on that note when we upgrade or get ready to do an upgrade we let you all know and if we get ready to spend on server upgrade`s we let you all know and when its done we or i post the ticket showing all the members what was spent and how it was spent i personally think that`s the right way to go.
I remember donating 50 pounds to the old rapid forum and the month after it closed down so what happened to my 50 pounds ?,.. I never found out tbh. but that being said that`s a day gone by!
Honesty is always the best option in my eye`s and with the team we have assembled i`m sure this site will always put the member`s first and we will do our best to keep pushing forward for many many years too come.

I donated regularly £150.00 was the most I paid in one go . That was because Phil was moaning about "people" using his forum to sell things. I said it was a double-edged sword in that to gain members there had to be an attraction to the forum. Still can't believe Phil wouldn't sell the rights, I did express an interest, as did quite a few others. Seems a little odd to me. He often lamented about how he never made a penny out of it yet when the chance came to cash in he just wound it up. Very strange.

same here Bob m8.lost count of how many hundreds I donated.,I wouldn't mind but I also contributed alot of information on there what others learnt and gained from.

Well we are going about this the right way and contacting gun shops that wish to put there banner at the top up on the main forum and our rate`s are very cheap we have another three new donation`s coming in, and if member`s wish to help the site grow by offering a donation then that`s great too, But that being said this is a free site for all to use and enjoy and also take information from so its all good i think.
