Title: After market triggers
Post by: Foxdropper on December 20, 2021, 08:30:03 PM
Hello chaps
Not been on a while but I've now started using the rapid regularly .It's downfall is the gammo trigger ,I hate it .What are the recommendations for replacements and could I do it myself 🤭
Thanks in advance
Ps it's the mk1 in fac .

From the Extreme... You can have your Rapid Machined and a new Mark 4 trigger installed!
Or you can tear down your gamo. Clean it and give it a light polish to the pivot points and sears...

KevG is your man to talk you through It!

I don't actually mind my gamo trigger ,not as slick as some but I shoot an AR15 too so anything is better than that

The Gamo can be tuned up for a fraction of the cost of a mk4 conversion.
Cleaning up the sears and shortening the pull turns the unit into a much nicer more positive trigger.

I had considered having mine updated but all said and done  it doesn't actually add much to the value of an FAC either.

The Gamo is a single stage unit and the misconception is that its a two stage because of a combination of the stiff return spring and long travel.
I think you'll agree the main issue is the length of pull which even with experience can leave you anticipating the break.

The problem is trigger pin 15L...'short pull'.... lord only knows much travel is in the long-pull  ;D
That is the blades contact with the bottom sear and the simple fix is fitting a bush to reduce the travel.

The Gamo is an easy strip, can be a little frustrating to put back in but not in need of watch-making skills.

The fix that was thought up many years ago was to fit a model car bearing race to the trigger pin.
That reduces the long first stage and lightens the trigger slightly when pulling through the felt second stage.

Later gamo triggers had a Bush fitted from the factory to achieve the same result...

The gamo trigger is basic but can be honed into a good trigger 👍

It will never be as good as my gold medal trigger unit .....

Ok Ok .... I needed to edit this because i did miss a shot or two when shooting rabbits in an open field,....But it was windy...or was it me shaking with excitement as i was only 20 years old and i was loving the moment of shooting back then,

Anyway back then it was what it was and i don`t know if you all remember how it was back in your younger days but it would be great if you posted it for us all to read and get involved.

:)

Hey Kernal....
There is nothing like a Well Tuned 2-Stage Trigger!!
Nice Silky Smooooth.. 1st stage take-up
Then You Engage nice, Well Defined 2nd Stage.
With little or No creep, a Crisp Break(Like Glass) of the trigger...

My Mark 4 triggers are set for 6 to 8ozs 1st Stage take-up.
Then another 4ozs the 2nd stage breaks .... Your Rapid Fires!!

The Custom Competition trigger on my Ul_Ti_Mate Rapid is another story......

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ok leaving the trigger where it is then .Is there a step by step guide to tuning the gammo
and kit needed .Alternatively ,is there anyone in the Swindon area that wants to do it 😁.
Not got the patience for fiddly work .Also bolt is very stiff .
Regards FD

1 thing to be aware of with the gamo trigger ..... you need to use a slave pin on early mk1s to remove the trigger unit. The slave pin allows removal of the trigger without it falling apart - which then requires a rebuild. Later mk1s with the gamo trigger have a slot machined into the block - so a slave pin is not required.

No idea on a rapid man local to you, plus being FAC you can't leave it with your friendly shed tuner.

I'll be honest perhaps it's time to buy a set of long arm imperial allen keys and find some patience.

The trigger is an easy fix, the bolt is probably in need of a new cocking dog if its hard to cycle.
And a Gamo triggered R7/Mk1 isn't ported for a regulator.....can be done but as a bolt-on there are limitations to what you can get on a standard block.

Check out GRT 111 trigger.
Used to be made by Charlie de tuna
Woodfield Gun Care ( Welsh Willy ) just bought the last 10 off me out of 100 I had done. Need to get some more made as they fit the Gamo trigger to the new Remington.
