Title: MFR shroud diameter
Post by: mnementh on August 04, 2021, 03:59:06 PM
Hi guys,
just prowling about on ebay and noticed this item;

233822447471

I already have a couple of the Gun Tuff "Black" slip on silencer adapters for both my MKI and MkII S200's but wondered if an extra degree of hush would be good for my MFR.

The adpters go from 10mm to 16mm slip on diameter.

Nice price as well, if your Rapid could do with a bit of "bling"

I don't know the actual Shroud diameter on the MFR....
But it is larger than 16mm... the diameter of the standard Rapid barrel was 16mm..
But I believe KevG make a great Add-on moderator for the MFR.
It replaces the Endcap of the shroud!!

the mfr shroud is 25.13 mm od and weighs a lot dont see it being that effective , i do have an extra end section but with it all being steel its makes it even longer and v heavy .
mine is the factory std nothing to do with Kev

Have you done the Hurwitt mods to the muzzle support ?

Makes them a lot quieter.

Sorry for delayed reply,
go to www.hurwitt.me.uk - airguns - technical - MFR and look at how he's opened up the air flow of the barrel support.

it makes the MFR far quieter & with the shroud extension added mine is almost silent  ;)

I looked at that page when I first got my MFR and its helpful (he usually goes by "snapshot" on forums).....however you don't have to do the dremelling to make it quiet.  if you have a skinny barrel and a standard shroud, you should have enough room for two hair curlers up front, wrapped in scotch bright or felt and with the washers from his page.  This makes for a very quiet rifle, keeping the standard length.

I do have a slightly shortened shroud (I didn't do it, was on a gun I bought) and I have put the slip on AWT mod on there.......its stupid quiet, however its also stupid long  ::)

The kev g mod above looks very nice....if I had that on the slightyl shortened version it would almost be the same length as standard.  Another good way to go.

My MFR actually came with a load gubins stuffed in the end of the shroud, first thing I did was pull it out, which to my ear made it quieter  ???
I recently bought an extension which also had similar gubins stuck inside it, which I've also removed.
The extension itself makes a hell of a difference, but I couldn't notice any difference in volume with/without the contents.

What it does make a difference to is the accuracy, removing the stuff seems to have pulled the grouping even tighter.
You're right about the AWT slip on, it also spoils the look,
& yes Kev's mod does look very nice indeed.

Looks rather nice.
