Title: Just swapped from .22 to .177 reg question
Post by: Aggy on July 17, 2021, 09:59:35 PM
Hi guys just swapped barrels from .22 to .177 ,the gun is an Mfr with bucketboy internals shroud ect .
With the hammer spring adjuster wound in fully I was getting 10.4 ftlb again and again but I want it to be about 11.6 with bismags .
The reg pressure needs to go up so bottle off bottle adapter out and I have the reg in my hand , thought lasts start at 1/4 turn and give it a try this gave me 8 ftlb ok I will put it back to where it was backed it off 1/4 turn couple of shots and his stuff the air is dumping, pulled the reg out to find the Nylock has dropped off and it and all the beliville washers has dropped off ,
At the moment from the bottom I have ()() then the nut that realistically only goes flush to the stem is that right ?

Not sure if my regs goosed or what ,regardless where it is set the max I can get out of it is 10.4 ftlb I think a visit to Kev g is in order ,

Sounds like the threads have stripped. I had this happen recently while testing an old worn out reg. I heard a ping while screwing the bottle onto the reg tester, this was the nut and stack of washers flying off the core. This resulted in the valve instantly sealing shut and the air being prevented from filling the block. Sounds like the delrin valve seat/face has worn on yours as well, if it's dumping air. I need a new one as well

The threads are good not stripped ,
I will stick a photo on later ,the amount or reg stem looks short to me  and the fact I only have four Belvile washers

You could try adding one or two more Belleville washers to the stack then try on the reg tester

I misunderstood sorry. How do you mean by the Nylock and Belleville's had dropped off?
I had a bit of a stint on regs recently in an effort to learn about them to allow me to carry out my own maintenance. I was playing around with three regs and each one has its own personality if you like. I found it fascinating and learned loads, but there's a hell of a lot get your head around considering they're such a simple device. Just get Kev on the case  ;D I would have been there until Christmas if I didn't phone Kev

Edit* I've just read through it again and I think I understand what you mean now. I agree with nevadacowboy. I also had that problem with one of the regs

I know the o ring has blown but it's one I don't have looks like it's a square section ?

No it's not square in cross section just deformed under the pressure over time. The o ring thats failed on yours in BS015 14 x 1.78mm. The others are BS005 2.57 x 1.78, BS803 6.35 x 1.78, and BS109 7.59 x 2.62mm (acts as a spacer to set end float).

looks like a short-short core, just enough to get pressure for sub-12. 22 even with one of BBs high flow set ups.
Probably why you're not able to get it over 10.4.
will probably need some thicker belvilles or to double up on the thinner ones..if there's enough space on the shaft.

Just replaced the oring ,a tried  again the brass knurled section Should have an oring but mine looks to have a machined delrin ring the float is as near as I can measure with my digital verniers 0.3 mm , just got back to 10.4 ftlb and nipped it down another quarter turn and it dropped to 5.7 ftlb ,as said above I don't seem to have mush more range than where it is now .

Hi Kev with the washers (())  it is either at 1500 psi or with a slightest tip it jumps the 1600

well reg pressure is fine for .177 on standard length barrel.what size porting is on the barrel.

Hi Aggy Kev doesn`t live very far from us. Make an appointment and nip through. You will be amazed how fast he works his magic. Might save some frustration in the long run. ATB Ken.

Just got the reg to sit at 1500 psi but not happy with it,
The washers are (()) But the nut is not contacting the washers the beliville washers gan be rotated when assembled but it Tighten it to just touch them the pressure jumps , also when the bottle is unscrewed the block leaks back through the bottle adapter.

It's all back and working consistently on the chrono just under powered ,
Not a big fan of the reg at all ,only played with the fx ones and they aren't as we made but work much better across a larger range
