Title: Air leak - body damage?
Post by: Sambo on June 20, 2021, 06:46:09 PM
Hi, looking for some guidance please.

Stripped and rebuilt my fac mk1 last night as it had an air leak, seemed mosty to be coming down the barrel from what I understand this is most likely a valve seal or bent valve..
I used the Jimmy dee guide and some other diagrams I found on the Internet and was pretty meticulous.
I checked the valve its all good, the seal on the black valve looked like it could do with replacing as it was slightly distorted so I put the leak down to that..
Excited and optimistic i charged it last night to find the leak was exactly the same!
Just cracked it open now to have a look,
and on close inspection there seems to be a very small chip inside the body where the black valve sits!! (See image) this has got to be the cause of the leak?
I recently fitted a new bottle and wonder if a tiny bit of swarf off the new threads got in there and scored the body?
If this is the problem can it be fixed?
Any help greatly appreciated!

It looks like there is no major damage in your photo...
The valve-body area just needs a good cleaning...
If some of the crude or dried grease got in between the O-ring.
This can cause a leak down the barrel!

Good Luck,
Stuart

Why don't you put a complete new valve assembly in while you are there.

Thanks for the quick replys and help!

I found a microscopic piece for thread from the grub screw tapping on the black valve, must have dropped in on assembly!
Anyhow, gave it another good clean and the grub screw tapping and re assembled..
Seemed airtight last night when I charged it. Have to check it hasn't drained over night to be sure, but seems good so far!

Thanks again for the guidance Stuart very much appreciated!

William, do you know where I can get the whole valve assembly new?

Cheers boys!
