Hey Guys,
I decided to do a post on How I install the QF kits by Dr Bob and RAW.
This includes any mods I do!
First let's get started with Dr Bob's kit.
His QF kit has a stem that replaces the stock valve assembly, and a banjo fitting.
Then this assembly screws directly into the Rapid's FF or Reg Bottle adapter.

I used a tool I had made up to remove the stock Rapid valve. You can use the tool that Dr Bob
Includes in his kit.

Mine has a square hole so I can use my ½" breaker bar.
Next come installing of the QF stem into the bottle and slide the banjo fitting on.

Now come the sweaty palms... Drilling the Stock for the QF access.
I made a drilling jig, pattern after the one Swift made out of Aluminum... Mine is Delrin.
It has threaded hole to use the standard stock securing cap screw. Then I precisely measured
the locating hole for the guide pin where QF nipple access hole need to be.

So I would clamp my jig in my vise on my Mill. Next position the table so the guide pin
Easily slip into the hole in the jig. Then you screw the stock onto the jig.

To drill the access hole, I use a sharp 1 inch Forstner Bit.

Now come the technical part.. I machined and contoured a Delrin liner, cap and grip extension for the QF socket

Btw... I did plug the hole for the gauge, since I have a shroud, I don't use one.
No to bad for my first one.....
Now on to the RAW QF kit. It replaces your Reg adapter. It comes with a new reg/bottle adapter and banjo fitting with gauge and QF nipple.

This one I had to make a custom banjo fitting.
Since the stock one with the Gauge would not fit with my shroud.
So I had to fire up my little CNC mill and cut some 7071 aluminum.

Next, I chucked up the new banjo fitting in my lathe to contour and bore it.
Cut the internal O-ring grooves.
Then drill it to fit the QF nipple.

After looking at the Raw unit...I decided I didn't need a Reg.
So, I chucked up a spare Fast-flow into the old lathe and did some cutting.

So now I have a couple of options now......
Now comes the sweat palms...I need to drill my Custom Laminate DaveG Stock.
First I had to modify my QF Stock Drilling Jig.
I added a 2nd hole to match the new position of the QF nipple.

Now using the same 1 inch Forstner Bit, I drilled the hole through my stock.
Next I had to decide how I would dress up this hole.
Delrin just didn't look right. So I decided on brass.
Also what to do about a cover.....
This is what I came up with!
I Threaded the brass liner and made a threaded cover to match.

I use the same QF socket with the Delrin extension I made for the Dr Bob's QF to inflate my Rapid.

Beautiful work Stuart, I've seen this before on the old R7OC. I've always said, "if I had a lathe and a mill, I'd be in prison now" .

Nice work! Can only dream of being able to do this sort of stuff I keep threatening to get a small hobby lathe to make little bits and bob on and seeing this sort of thing spurs me on to get on with it and see where it takes me

Nice is that a ruger 1022 receiver in the lathe? Getting tried up I assume?
Yes... 80% 10/22 receiver...Take-down model...
I had drill and bore for barrel retention insert.

Cant ever see 80% receivers being available/legal in the uk shame really I'd like to have a tinker with something like that. I have a volquartsen superlite serial no/0001 with a lilja that thing can shoot when I do my bit. Wonder if you guys over there could get 80% rapid blocks made? That would be a fun project!
Well for us over on this side of the pond.....
Airguns are not Regulated AT this time!!
No licenses, regulation on power level or caliber....nothing....
Anything that is shoots any projectile, not using gunpowder(explosive charge) is not considered a Firearm..
So doing a 80% Rapid Receiver is pointless over here...

I have an ar or 2 my self a cmmg 22rf convertion and a sabre defence 223/556 but with its balls cut off ie no gas parts just straight pull ie I have to manually cock it with a side lever every shot
Hi Stuart, can I ask a question about this if you don't mind please?
On this picture did you fit one of the 2 smaller O rings from the bottom picture to either side of the banjo fitting?
As it looks like you only fitted the one to the bottle stem.
The reason I ask is that on my MFR I fitted the second O ring between the banjo fitting and the regulator and all the air I put into the bottle purges through the regulator vent and Im wondering if this is my issue.
so I took it off and put the old bottle back on.

Dr Bob's QF shouldn't cause your reg to leak.....

If air is coming from the hole closer to the bottle...
This could a problem of the internal Bottle O-ring the MFR uses
Also I believe Dr Bob was finding some MFR reg's leaks here too.
I he figured a way of sealing this hole(for the set screw to secure the push-pin disk)
So you should contact him
I would try packing the hole with a little Teflon(PTFE) tape as packing.
Then reinsert and tighten the setscrew!
But, if the air is leaking from the hole closer to the receiver..
Then the reg core O-rings need to be looked at!!!
