Title: Probe with an O-Ring???
Post by: Zack on February 03, 2021, 07:11:09 PM
Well, I'm still waiting to receive my new rig.  Since I'm new to RAW, I'm still confused how the metal probe makes a complete seal with the barrel, given that they are BOTH metal surfaces.  It must be a tried and true method since it's been in use for so long, but I can't help but wonder if you would gain a better seal if an O-Ring was machined into the probe similar to the Daystate Regal/Revere.  (I'm not a fan of the O-Rings machined into the breech as they are a bugger to replace.)  Has anyone modified their probe to use with an O-ring and noticed a better seal/higher velocities?  Just curious...

No O-ring needed..
The Outer probe is lapped to mate with the breech of the barrel

Just like lapping a valve seat in the head of your car!
This will create a perfect seal, no O-ring required

Ahhh, that explains how they seal together - thanks for the explanation!  Also, there's no O-Ring to wear out so that's another bonus.
