I'm not new to airguns but I'm new to Rapids, despite having a Mk1 and MFR decades ago. I just didn't mess with them and just shot them instead.
Some say this is what they are for???
Anyway, questions.
I have a Mk1 Elan, the action is almost new and is unworked and unblemished.
The stock is a GinB RH but it has the standard stock in LH too.
I have (inbound) a "Tactical" ::) stock from Happydude, off his TM500 I think. Plus a barrel and shroud in my favoured .177.
Do I cut my losses and sell the Elan as it is and buy a Mk2 to work on or play about with the Mk1?
Nothing I do will be non reversable.
Ideas and guidance most welcome!

I don't want to go down the bottle route as (sorry) I just find them ugly, be it on a Rapid, FX or whatever.
I'll be using a modded Winerack HW tube probably with a Huma reg inside.
The trigger is sorted on the Elan, works lovely now compared to stock so no massive advantage there with the Mk2.
I beleive this action is shorter, so would have fun making it look (sweet but I will).
Anyone know the physical differences on the Mk1 and 2 please?
I just checked on here, was made in March 1999. Great resource, thanks!
the physical difference between the two in regards to changing stocks
the mk2 only uses the front mounting bolt and sits about 4mm further back in the stock.
The cut out for the gamo trigger is also different to the mk4 and the back corner of the gamo unit can sit unevenly.
Great info and just what I needed. :)
Any opinions on going Mk2 and selling the Elan as is?
I suppose I'm asking if the Mk1 can be msde to perform to a high standard given the availability of aftermarket parts and ideas from the likes of KevG and DrBob?
I have a MK1 and that's had a kevg reg fitted, all his internals and double inertia weight system as well as his moderator, haven't tried it yet it's waiting to be posted back to me, I prefer the mk1 over the mk2 because you can do want you want with it.
A MK1 isn't regged so you have to find the sweet spot on fill pressure and shot count too, where the mk 2 is regged so consistent till it drops of the reg,
It depends if you want to tinker with it or shoot it
I'm deffo a tinkerer Davey. I have some bits inbound to make something nice.
I love to shoot but get just as much if not more, from the build and challenges.
I don't think I own a standard rifle!
Thinking on, I have got a standard rifle, a late 30s Webley Service MkII.
Yes I have a MK1 and mk 2 Mercury standard lol,
I fitted kevg reg myself and new seal kit about 6 years ago, when I stripped it I polished all the internals to a mirror finish and only the o rings got molykote 33, everything was smooth and consistent after that and enjoyed just sitting there polishing it too lol
My plans are slightly fluid at the moment but I've talked to Kev about a double tap hammer. I thought hard about one of his Mk1 regs too but the Huma in a modded Weihrauch air cyl is making more sense to me at the moment.
A Mk2 block would get me a "better" trigger, but tbh I have no big issue with the 10 bob Gsmo trigger.
I made a little roller, cleaned, lubed and adjusted it and it's nice now
Are the huma regs good on a hw100 then ? Just the wife has a 100 and might get that modded
On the HW the rdg is in the reciever block and has to be bridged to let the Huma work.
The Huma sits in the end of the air tube and references atmospheric pressure by removing the valve end O ring.
A perfect solution as it will give a quickfill. Gauge and reg in one component.
I have four mk1`s. KevG converted one to .177 from .22. Checked it over, fitted one of his valves, changed the barrel, fitted a shroud and silencer. Made it a brilliant rifle, the shroud and silencer wasn`t his own but is very quiet. He said his own silencer was even quieter, and I belive him. He is a great bloke to talk to. Contact him and ask what he can do to the various models before you make up your mind. ATB Ken.
Thanks for the input Ken, much appreciated
