Thought id strip my 7 shot mags today for a clean and a refurb...
Cleaned using brake cleaner spray
Re painted using Humbrol enamel model paint in red and white gloss
Looks good 👍
Magazines now run smoothly and don't feel gritty
Heres the enamel paints I used - using a small artists paintbrush , just putting a couple of drops into each of the indents in the mag wheel.
Makes it easier to see when you have 2 shots left and when you're on your last shot 👍
Nice work Daz, Ive got a 7shot original mag but the spring thingy inside has lost its tension and doesn't rotate properly, any tips on getting it working. I haven't seen those paint pots for years, many airfix models completed through the 1970's
Yes the mag spring has to be located properly in the mag body (pic below) and then you have to rotate the mag wheel 1 turn to tension it - it is very fiddly to do but it can be done once you've got the knack.
If you take the pressure off the mag wheel it will jump and spin - losing tension
So holding the wheel into the mag body with your thumb to prevent it jumping and spinning - slide the clear cover over the mag wheel and then insert and screw in the cover screw....... making sure to hold the cover against the mag body
Then you can set the tension of the mag / mag wheel using the cover screw
Sorted 👍
nice job daz.they can be fiddly little twats to work on.

Yep there's a definite knack to putting them back together mate - but after a good clean they do feel so much better 👍
Thought id give them a refurb as I'm going to use them in my early mk1
Got an idea about making them hard to lose too - will put some pics on soon
My idea was to use some 3M red reflective tape on the side of the mags .... so if they got dropped in the grass there would be a good chance of finding them again ....
The same size tape (1cm) could be used on the larger mags too 👍
What a great read and very helpful Daz.
Thank you for the upload and im sure many will learn from this.
Regards kev.
Hopefully kev 👍
I'm on hand too if anyone has any problems with them ...
